Maryam Nawaz Launches Aghosh Program: Rs. 23,000 Aid for Mothers

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the launch of the first-of-its-kind “Aghosh” program, under which mothers of children under two years old and pregnant women will receive Rs. 23,000 in financial assistance.

According to a report by Express News, the Punjab government stated that in the first phase, the “Aghosh” program will provide financial aid to mothers of newborns and pregnant women in 13 districts. The program will initially be launched in:

  • Dera Ghazi Khan
  • Taunsa
  • Rajanpur
  • Layyah
  • Muzaffargarh
  • Kot Addu

Additionally, the program will also be implemented in:

  • Bahawalpur
  • Rahim Yar Khan
  • Bahawalnagar
  • Bhakkar
  • Mianwali
  • Khushab
  • Lodhran

As part of the Aghosh program, pregnant women will receive Rs. 2,000 upon their first registration at health centers or Maryam Health Clinics.

They will continue to receive financial assistance throughout their pregnancy for regular medical check-ups. After free health screenings at medical centres, beneficiaries will be able to collect their funds from the program’s cash agents.

Breakdown of Financial Assistance Under the “Aghosh” Program:

  • Rs. 1,500 per visit for medical checkups during pregnancy (up to Rs. 6,000 total)
  • Rs. 4,000 upon childbirth at a health center
  • Rs. 2,000 for the first medical checkup within 15 days of birth
  • Rs. 5,000 upon registering the birth certificate at the health center
  • Rs. 4,000 for getting the newborn vaccinated, with Rs. 2,000 provided at each immunization visit

Additionally, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed the launch of a toll-free helpline to assist and guide women regarding the program.

Speaking on the initiative, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that healthcare and medical treatment are fundamental rights of every mother and child, and the government is committed to fulfilling this responsibility.

She expressed concern over the lack of medical facilities for mothers and children in hospitals, stressing that government resources rightfully belong to underprivileged and remote communities.

CM Maryam Nawaz further highlighted that maternal and child health requires special attention,

“A healthy mother ensures a healthy family.”

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to not only providing medical care in disadvantaged areas but also financial support for women.

CM Maryam Nawaz concluded that the “Aghosh” program will ensure a healthier start to life for both mothers and their newborns.
