Diesel Subsidy Plan for Small Farmers: Per Acre rate Proposed

Islamabad: The government has moved forward with a diesel subsidy plan to support small farmers and reduce rising agricultural costs.

Officials confirmed that both federal and provincial authorities are working together on this subsidy plan. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on farmers, especially ahead of the upcoming crop season.

According to sources, the diesel subsidy plan will target farmers who own up to 5 acres of land. The government is considering providing up to Rs1,500 per acre. This support will help farmers manage fuel expenses during key farming activities.

Meanwhile, provinces will allocate funds from their own budgets. Authorities will transfer the subsidy directly into farmers’ digital wallet accounts. Therefore, this method will ensure fast and transparent payments under the subsidy plan.

In addition, policymakers are also discussing relief measures for motorcycle and rickshaw users. Provinces will handle these transfers directly. However, the federal government will formally announce the overall diesel subsidy plan.

Officials are taking this step due to expected increases in petroleum prices. Regional tensions may push up fuel costs. As a result, the government wants to protect both farmers and the general public.

Moreover, provinces are expected to provide nearly Rs150 billion for subsidies. The federal government will introduce a unified mechanism to manage the diesel subsidy program efficiently. Provinces will remain responsible for distribution.

At the same time, data collection has already improved in key regions. Punjab and Sindh already maintain records of small farmers. Similarly, around 1.5 million farmers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may benefit from the diesel subsidy plan.

Furthermore, this initiative reflects a broader effort to strengthen the agricultural sector. Lower fuel costs can improve productivity and reduce pressure on food prices.

Overall, the diesel subsidy plan shows the government’s intent to support small farmers during uncertain economic conditions.
