Karachi: As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, many citizens in Pakistan are asking whether banks will provide new currency notes for the tradition of giving Eidi.
Giving Eid to children and loved ones remains one of the most cherished Eid traditions. While some people give gifts, many prefer to give cash. Most families like to present crisp new currency notes, which makes the occasion feel more special.
Because of this tradition, people usually visit banks before Eid to collect new notes in different denominations. These notes are then used to give Eid to children, relatives, and friends during Eid celebrations.
In recent days, a notification circulating on social media created confusion among the public. The message claimed that banks would not provide new currency notes for Eid-ul-Fitr this year.
The viral notification also stated that the State Bank of Pakistan planned to stop issuing new notes. It further claimed that the SMS service used to request fresh notes would also be shut down.
According to the message, authorities wanted people to move toward digital payments instead of cash.
However, the State Bank of Pakistan has strongly rejected this claim. Officials confirmed that the online notification is fake.
According to the central bank, no official announcement has been issued regarding the suspension of new currency notes for Eid. Authorities clarified that any decision regarding the distribution of new currency notes will be shared through official channels.
The State Bank advised citizens to ignore unverified messages on social media. Officials warned that such rumors often spread confusion during important occasions.
The bank also assured the public that any genuine update about new currency notes will be announced through official media releases. This step will ensure transparency and provide citizens with accurate information before Eid.
