A senior active-duty Indian Army Colonel, Pushpinder Singh Bath, and his son, Angad Singh, were brutally beaten by Punjab Police officers on March 14 in Patiala. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media.
According to Indian media reports, the colonel was subjected to police brutality for approximately 45 minutes, resulting in a broken arm, while his son suffered head injuries.
Both father and son are currently undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. Following a complaint from the family, 12 police officers have been suspended.
The altercation reportedly took place near Rajindra Hospital, outside a food stall, over a parking dispute.
Colonel Pushpinder Singh and his son had stopped for breakfast when three plainclothes police officers approached them and ordered the colonel to move his vehicle.
The colonel, who is stationed at the New Delhi headquarters, objected to the tone and behavior of the officers.
Reports indicate that the police officers forcibly pulled the colonel out of his vehicle and subjected him to severe physical assault, footage of which has surfaced online.
The viral footage shows Indian police officers dragging the colonel out of his car, slapping and kicking him, while also assaulting his son.
Colonel Pushpinder Singh stated that the situation escalated further when he pointed out that the police officers appeared to be intoxicated.
According to him, when he accused the officers of being under the influence, the violence intensified.
Punjab Police officials confirmed that 12 officers have been suspended in response to the incident, and a formal investigation has been launched.
