Islamabad: Security forces have completed an operation against a terrorist attack. On 11 March 2025, Jaffar Express, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, was attacked by heavily armed terrorists near Sibi. 21 passengers, including 04 Army personnel, were martyred, while all 33 terrorists were eliminated successfully by the Pakistan Army.
Director General (DG) of the Pakistan Army`s Public Relations Wings (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated that on March 11, around 1 PM, terrorists blew up the railway track in the Osi Pur area of Balan and stopped the Jaffer Express train. As per Railway Officials, the train had 440 passengers on board.
DG ISPR further added that the area is remote and difficult to move. The terrorists initially used hostages, including women and children, as human shields.
He further stated that the rescue operation was launched immediately, with personnel from the Army, Air Force, Frontier Corps, and SSG participating. The hostages were gradually rescued.
The DG ISPR revealed that during the operation, the terrorists were in contact with their facilitators and masterminds in Afghanistan via satellite phone.
By yesterday evening, 100 hostages had been rescued, and today, a large number of passengers, including women and children, were also freed. This process continued intermittently.
In the final phase of the operation in the evening, all the abducted passengers were rescued. However, before the operation, the brutal terrorists had already taken 21 innocent lives.
Additionally, three FC personnel stationed at the railway post were martyred, and one more FC soldier was martyred during the operation.
He stated that no one is allowed to harm Pakistani citizens. The DG ISPR confirmed that all hostages had been rescued unharmed and that 33 terrorists had been sent to hell.
He emphasized that no passengers suffered any harm during the operation, and the Pakistan Air Force played an active role. The operation was carried out with precision and caution.
He further mentioned that just minutes after the incident, misleading reports started circulating in Indian media, which began broadcasting AI-generated, old footage and images, revealing the terrorists’ links with their foreign handlers.
Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry pointed out that certain elements activate their social media accounts during such incidents, and it is unfortunate that some, driven by a lust for power, are sacrificing national interests.
He stated that the public is beginning to understand the complex hands behind disruptive politics. These elements create misleading narratives to deceive the people while they themselves fail to abide by the law.
He asserted that those targeting innocent civilians will be relentlessly pursued. The daily sacrifices and martyrdoms reflect Pakistan’s resilience against terrorism.
He questioned the political and social leadership’s role in addressing the factors necessary for eradicating terrorism.
The DG ISPR stressed that terrorists must receive strict punishments according to the law and called for evaluating Pakistan’s standing on the National Action Plan’s proposed narrative.
It is noteworthy that terrorists had hijacked the Jaffer Express traveling from Quetta to Peshawar the previous day, attacking the train in the areas of Gudalaar and Pero Kani.
The brutal attack on the Jaffer Express in Balochistan was widely condemned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Senate Chairman, senior officials, political leaders, and other prominent figures.
