KARACHI: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a new Karachi storm alert, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail across Pakistan in the next 12 to 24 hours.
The NDMA forecasted storms and rainfall for Karachi, as well as nearby Sindh cities including Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, and Umerkot. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures and stay indoors when possible.
In Balochistan, gusty winds combined with thunderstorms are expected in several areas. Meanwhile, northern regions including Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Neelum Valley may experience a mix of rain, strong winds, and snowfall.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also see rainfall in cities like Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Chitral, and Dera Ismail Khan. In Punjab, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan are likely to receive rain, with hailstorms possible in Murree, Sialkot, Narowal, and Sargodha.
The NDMA warned that dust storms may reduce visibility and make roads slippery, posing risks for commuters. Hailstorms could also damage crops and fragile infrastructure. In mountainous regions, snowfall may disrupt traffic flow.
Authorities urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, remain in safe locations, and follow local safety instructions during these adverse weather conditions.
The Karachi storm alert emphasizes the importance of preparedness as Pakistan faces a wave of extreme weather across multiple provinces.
