Islamabad: The State Bank of Pakistan is set to introduce newly designed currency notes ranging from 10 to 5,000 rupees. The move aims to modernize the nation’s currency and enhance security features.
State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmed informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that the central bank has finalized the designs for the new notes. Recommendations have been sent to the federal government for approval.
The designs have already received approval from the State Bank Board. The next step is consideration by the federal cabinet, which will make the final decision on their issuance.
Governor Jameel Ahmed said that the new notes will include advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting and ensure safer transactions.
He added that although the designs are ready, no official approval has been granted yet. The federal cabinet is currently reviewing the matter.
In response to the committee chairman’s query, the governor stated that the new currency designs could be presented to the committee in a closed session. A special meeting for this demonstration will be scheduled soon.
