Overseas Pakistanis’ Property Disputes to be Resolved in New Special Courts

Overseas Pakistanis will get a new court for resolution of property issues. A special bench has also been constituted in the Islamabad High Court to expedite the proceedings of Law on this behalf.
Establishment of the Overseas Property Act 2024

The Overseas Property Act 2024 deals with property-related cases of overseas Pakistanis. Islamabad courts will handle these matters for quick justice.
Express News reported that these courts are aimed at expediting the resolutions of property disputes of overseas Pakistanis. The Islamabad High Court’s acting Chief Justice has been instrumental in the formation of these courts.

Appointments of Judges for the Special Courts
The acting Chief Justice can post the session judges. A letter issued by the Registrar of the Islamabad High Court addressed to the Secretary of Law & Justice announces the appointment of session judges for East and West Overseas Special Courts.

To that end, the letter also speaks to pending matters, the experience that judges and judicial officers presiding over such matters need, and the importance of these matters to the broader public.

The Ministry of Law will make a notification in this regard for the East and West Sessions Courts under the Overseas Property Act. Such notifications will bring legal clarity to the jurisdiction and operation of these special courts.

Unique Bench of Islamabad High Court

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has also constituted a unique bench for hearing cases related to the properties of overseas Pakistanis under the Overseas Property Act 2024.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro’s Role

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro will hear cases related to the properties of overseas Pakistanis. In this regard, the Deputy Registrar issued a notification declaring his sole authority in dealing with such cases, which the acting Chief Justice signed.

New Laws for Overseas Property Problems

Provisions have been made in this bill to ensure cases move forward efficiently, initiated by Chaudhry Salik Hussain. Disputes must be decided by courts within 90 days, enhancing the legal process for overseas Pakistanis.

Overseas Pakistanis and Their Economic Contributions

Finance and Revenue Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, addressing a press conference, highlighted the economic performance of Pakistan. He stressed the need for remittances, foreign investment and growth of institutions to bolster the economy.

Sending reached a record $3.1 billion in February 2025, a substantial increase. Remittance inflows are expected to touch a record high of $36 billion by the end of the fiscal year, according to experts.

Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar addressing at a news conference, paid accolades to overseas Pakistanis. They are the ones who in my opinion are the “backbone of our nation”, as they support the economy and maintain balance for the nation.
