KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy successfully rescued 18 crew members, including foreign nationals, after responding to a distress call in the North Arabian Sea, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The Navy said PNS HUNAIN launched a swift search and rescue operation after receiving an emergency signal from the merchant vessel Gold Autumn. The ship operated around 200 nautical miles, approximately 370 kilometres, off Pakistan’s coastline.
Officials reported that the naval team reached the vessel quickly and provided immediate assistance. They delivered medical aid, supported firefighting efforts, and assessed damage onboard. The crew worked efficiently to stabilize the situation and prevent further risk.
The operation saved all 18 crew members successfully. Authorities transported them safely to Karachi, where they received medical care and arrangements for repatriation began. The rescued sailors included nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
The ISPR praised the operation and highlighted the Navy’s commitment to humanitarian duties. It stated that the Pakistan Navy continues to act as a first responder in maritime emergencies across its area of responsibility. Officials emphasized that such missions reflect Pakistan’s ongoing dedication to maritime safety.
The Navy has increased its operational readiness in recent months. Earlier, it launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr to strengthen maritime security and protect national shipping routes. The initiative focuses on safeguarding energy supplies and ensuring the smooth flow of sea trade.
Authorities said the operation aims to secure Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), especially amid rising regional security concerns. The Navy continues to monitor critical sea routes and respond to emergencies at sea.
Officials also noted that the Pakistan Navy regularly conducts humanitarian rescue missions regardless of nationality. They stressed that saving lives at sea remains a core responsibility of naval operations.
This latest rescue highlights the Navy’s rapid response capability and its ongoing role in maintaining maritime safety in the region.
