A nationwide power blackout swept Panama. As of 9:00 AM EDT on Sunday, March 16, 2025, the country is back online after authorities worked to restore electricity.
The blackout occurred shortly before midnight after a private generator was damaged, President José Raúl Mulino said.
The power failure also impacted drinking water facilities, as water treatment plants stopped working, AFP also reported.
The Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) confirmed that the water supply had been completely cut off, exacerbating the crisis even more.
