Imagine being stranded at sea for nearly three months without rescue. That is precisely what happened to a Peruvian fisherman who went missing in the Pacific Ocean and was found alive after 95 days.
Lost at Sea Since December 2024
According to Geo News, 61-year-old Maximo Napa Castro set out from Macarona, a southern coastal town in Peru, on December 7, 2024. However, severe weather conditions caused him to lose his way, making it impossible to navigate back to shore.
Rescue After Nearly Three Months
On March 11, 2025, he was spotted by an Ecuadorian fishing vessel in the coastal waters of northern Peru. By the time he was rescued, his health was critical, and he was suffering from severe dehydration.
How He Survived: Eating Insects, Birds & Turtles
Maximo Napa later described his incredible survival journey to local media, explaining that he stayed alive by eating insects, birds, and turtles while drinking rainwater for hydration.
However, in the final 15 days, he had no food at all, and during this time, he could only think about his family.
Emotional Family Reunion
His daughter expressed her gratitude to the Ecuadorian fishermen, saying:
“You saved my father, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
His family and various fishing groups searched the ocean for him for three months.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, his daughter wrote:
“Each passing day was painful for our entire family. I understood my grandmother’s pain because I am a mother myself. We never imagined facing such a situation, but we never lost hope—and we finally found him.”
After receiving medical treatment at a hospital, Maximo Napa was discharged and allowed to return home.
