RAWALPINDI: Authorities have extended the public holiday in Rawalpindi for Saturday, April 11, as Pakistan continues to host high-level talks between the United States and Iran.
Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema officially announced the decision and issued a notification. As a result, all government offices, private institutions, and educational centers will remain closed on Saturday.
Earlier, officials had already declared a two-day holiday in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad. However, as the situation developed, authorities decided to extend the تعطیل to ensure smooth security arrangements and proper management of the international event.
At the same time, Pakistan is playing a key diplomatic role. The recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran followed continuous mediation efforts led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Syed Asim Munir. Therefore, the ongoing talks have gained global attention.
Meanwhile, Islamabad has also announced a public holiday for Saturday. The district administration confirmed that all offices and educational institutions will stay closed. In fact, the federal government had already declared holidays for April 9 and 10 to prepare for the summit.
Because of the arrival of foreign delegations, authorities have tightened security across the capital. In particular, officials have sealed the Red Zone and restricted entry to authorized vehicles only. Consequently, traffic movement in key areas remains limited.
In addition, Islamabad Police have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. They have deployed traffic personnel across major roads to guide commuters and manage congestion. Citizens can also contact the helpline for real-time updates.
Moreover, officials have banned the entry of heavy vehicles into the city. This step will further reduce traffic pressure and support security operations during the talks.
On the other hand, the government has postponed sessions of the National Assembly and Senate. Authorities confirmed that they will reschedule these sessions after the diplomatic activities conclude.
Furthermore, preparations across Islamabad are in full swing. The Capital Development Authority has already started beautification work from Nur Khan Airbase to different parts of the city. Teams are working continuously to ensure everything looks organized and presentable.
Overall, both Rawalpindi and Islamabad remain under strict administrative control. As Pakistan hosts this important diplomatic event, authorities are taking every possible step to maintain security and ensure smooth operations.
