Quetta: In a significant security operation, forces in Balochistan have successfully rescued 104 passengers following a terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express.
According to Pakistani local news, sources report that the Quetta-to-Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express was targeted by terrorists who took passengers hostage. In response, security forces launched a clearance operation, successfully rescuing 104 hostages, including 58 men, 31 women, and 15 children.
Security forces have intensified their efforts, tightening the cordon around the attackers. An exchange of gunfire is ongoing, with security personnel working to ensure the safe release of any remaining hostages.
According to security sources, 16 terrorists have been eliminated so far, while several others have been injured. Additionally, 17 wounded passengers have been transported to hospitals for immediate medical care.
Reports indicate that the attackers have been communicating with foreign handlers via satellite phones. However, security forces have cornered them, forcing them into smaller groups.
Meanwhile, the rescued passengers have safely arrived at Quetta’s Machh railway station, with many being transported further. A special emergency information desk has been set up at Quetta railway station to assist families who have gathered to receive their loved ones.
The attack began with an explosion on the railway track, followed by heavy gunfire on the train. Security personnel onboard engaged in combat with the attackers, leading to an ongoing operation to neutralize the threat.
