The Book Guardian: Umar Farooq’s Fight to Keep Reading Alive in the Digital Age

In a world where people love spending time scrolling social media feeds and consuming fast content, there’s one man on a mission to bring back the love of books.

Meet Umar Farooq, a passionate book enthusiast who is hunting down readers and making sure they get their favorite book titles at the best prices.

A Love for Books That Refused to Die

Umar’s chemistry with books started in childhood, but it wasn’t an easy journey. Growing up in Sargodha, one of Punjab’s most beautiful regions, he lived in a house where non-academic books were considered a distraction for kids.

If his parents caught him with a storybook or digest, they’d snatch it away and toss it into the stove. It didn’t matter how much he pleaded—even if the stories were Islamic or educational, books were just not welcome.

But Umar wasn’t the type to give up on his love for books. His sister, who shared his passion, became his secret supporter. She stitched clothes to earn money, and whenever Umar got a chance to visit the city, he would borrow a few hundred rupees from her.

With that money, Umar sneakily bought books and magazines, including childhood favorites like Tarzan, Umro Ayyar, Taleem O Tarbiyat, Bacon Ka Bagh, and Jugnu. He would stuff them under his shirt to avoid getting caught. Reading them felt like a secret mission—just like how today’s teenagers hide cigarettes from their parents, Umar and his sister hid books.

Losing and Finding His Passion Again

As time passed, technology took over. When Umar got his first phone in college, books took a backseat. The internet felt like a whole new world—chatting with strangers from Europe and Dubai made him feel important.

But soon, the excitement faded. When he enrolled in BS Urdu at the University of Sargodha, he realized he didn’t just want a degree—he wanted actual knowledge. That’s when he reconnected with books, and this time, it was different.

A Social Media Post That Changed Everything

He started reading serious literature, joined literary circles, and connected with book lovers. His first profound book gift was Aakhri Ma’araka by Naseem Hijazi.

Then, an online friend sent him Qissa Hatim Tai Jadeed by Zafar Ji. He wrote a heartfelt review, took a picture with the book, and posted it on Facebook. That one post changed everything.

The author, happy with his words, sent him another book, Mullan Pur Ka Sain. Slowly, Umar’s name started getting recognized among book lovers, and soon, books were pouring in as gifts.

From Book Lover to Trusted Seller

But Umar didn’t just want to receive books—he wanted to give back. He noticed that people in his online book groups were constantly looking for a trustworthy seller.

That’s when he had an idea:

“Why not become that trusted seller myself?”

Now, Umar spends his time exploring book markets, finding rare and favorite titles at affordable prices. He doesn’t see it as a business—it’s a mission.

He knows what it feels like to desperately want a book but not have the money for it. That’s why he keeps his rates lower than the market, ensuring that book lovers can get their hands on the stories they cherish.

Building a Community of Readers

But Umar isn’t stopping there. He wants to build a reading community, to reignite the love for books in a world obsessed with screens.

He’s even planning to print beautiful bookmarks to send with the books.

For Umar, this isn’t just about selling books. It’s about bringing back a culture that is fading. He knows that book lovers are a rare breed—sensitive, passionate, and deeply attached to their collections.

He respects that. That’s why every order he sends out isn’t just a package; it’s a piece of his book-loving soul, wrapped up and sent with care.

The Book Guardian of Today’s Era

As a Brand Ambassador at Adeeb-Online, Umar is dedicated to promoting books and encouraging people to read more.

For him, this isn’t just about selling books—it’s about creating a movement, one book at a time.

Today, living in Lahore, Umar continues his journey of connecting readers with books. He studied at Superior Group of Colleges, Sargodha, and attended Govt. Boys High School Chak No. 75 SB, Sargodha.

He has worked at HAC Studios, but his true calling lies in keeping his love for books alive.

So, if you still believe in the magic of holding a book, flipping through its pages, and getting lost in a story, Umar Farooq is your guy.

He’s not just a seller.

He’s The Book Guardian, making sure books find their way into the hands of those who truly cherish them
