Karachi—Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has started collecting additional charges from Karachi residents under the category of geyser charges, regardless of whether they use geysers. This extra fee includes a charge of 2,085 rupees for installing a conical baffle, which the company has now made mandatory.
SSGC has informed customers that installing a conical baffle in geysers can help save up to 25% gas consumption. However, Karachi residents are taken aback by this extra charge, especially given that gas load-shedding has already significantly reduced the use of geysers in the city.
Residents from areas like Gulistan-e-Jauhar have complained about receiving these additional charges. When they inquired with the company, they were informed that a specific company had been contracted to install the conical baffle, and the related cost was compulsory and added to their bills.
