The Main Gateway
FPSC: The Main Gateway
The Federal Public Service Commission recruits for most federal government posts — and its process is fully online.
| Step | What to Do |
|---|---|
| 1. Find the ad | Consolidated Advertisements on fpsc.gov.pk — check eligibility, quota and closing date |
| 2. Generate PSID | Apply online → enter CNIC → generate PSID & challan for the fee |
| 3. Pay the fee | BS-16/17: Rs 600 · BS-18: Rs 1,500 · BS-19: Rs 2,500 · BS-20+: Rs 3,000 — via 1Link (ATM, mobile banking, Easypaisa/JazzCash) |
| 4. Complete the form | Personal details, education, experience, photo (<30 KB), DPC/NOC if already in government service |
| 5. Submit & track | Get your Tracking ID; you may edit once before the closing date |
| 6. Test & interview | MCQ written test → shortlisted candidates face interview/personality test |
Step by Step
How to Apply Online
The universal pattern across FPSC, CDA and departmental portals.
Read the Advertisement
Eligibility, age limit, domicile quota, and the last date — in the official ad, not a forwarded WhatsApp image. Screenshot the ad for your records.
Prepare Documents
CNIC, degrees/transcripts, domicile, recent photo, experience letters. Government employees need a DPC/NOC from their department before applying.
Pay & Submit Early
Pay the fee through the official channel (PSID/1Link), submit days before the deadline — portals crash on the last day. Save the Tracking ID.
Where the Jobs Are
Ministries & Departments
Beyond FPSC’s consolidated ads, federal ministries recruit directly.
Islamabad hosts the headquarters of every federal ministry — Interior, Finance, Foreign Affairs, Planning, IT & Telecom, Climate Change — plus attached departments, autonomous bodies and regulatory authorities (NADRA, PTA, OGRA, SECP). Many advertise in national dailies and on their own websites rather than through FPSC. Contract and project posts (like NPF’s 14 vacancies) are common; permanent posts usually route through FPSC. Ministries hiring guide →
Ministries
Policy-level posts; often FPSC-routed for BS-16+.
Attached Departments
Implementation arms — engineers, technicians, field staff.
Regulators & Authorities
NADRA, PTA, OGRA — better pay scales, direct applications.
City Government
CDA Jobs
The Capital Development Authority is Islamabad’s biggest municipal recruiter.
CDA’s September 2026 advertisement — 228 posts across 16 categories — is typical of its bulk hiring: fire service (131 posts), transport, medical, draftsmen, drivers and support staff, mostly on contract. Applications at cda.gov.pk/jobs only, Rs 2,000 per post, with physical standards for uniformed roles and provincial/ICT quota distribution. Islamabad 2026 jobs guide →
Uniformed Service
Islamabad Police Jobs
Recruitment into ICT Police runs through FPSC with physical tests by the department.
The 2026 Inspector (BS-16) intake — 23 permanent posts — shows the pattern: Master’s degree, age 20–28 (+5 relaxation), height 5’7″/5’2″, 1.6 km run (7 min male / 10 min female), quota across ICT, Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan, ex-FATA and AJK. Constable and ASI intakes follow similar cycles announced in national dailies.
Career Guide
Best Government Careers
Not all sarkari naukri is equal — the posts candidates compete hardest for.
CSS / Central Superior Services
The civil service exam — PAS, PSP, FSP and nine other groups. The most prestigious (and competitive) route into federal government.
FPSC Officer Posts (BS-17–19)
Assistant Directors, Lecturers, Engineers, Meteorologists — direct officer entry with pensions and structured promotion.
Regulatory Authorities
PTA, OGRA, SECP, NADRA — market-linked salaries that often beat the basic pay scales.
Stay Safe
Avoiding Job Scams
Government job fraud is rampant — the rules that keep you safe.
Red Flags
Anyone demanding cash for a posting, “confirm” fees on WhatsApp, or appointment letters before tests — all scams. Real recruitment never asks for money beyond the official challan/PSID fee.
Verify Everything
Match every forwarded ad against fpsc.gov.pk or the department’s official site. Check the advertisement number, closing date and application portal — fakes usually fail one of the three.
The Rules
Quota System Explained
Federal jobs are distributed by provincial quota — here’s how it works.
Pakistan’s federal recruitment reserves shares for each province and region: Merit (open competition), Punjab, Sindh (Urban/Rural), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, ex-FATA, AJK and ICT — plus women, minority and disabled quotas within them. Your domicile decides which quota you compete under, so a valid domicile certificate is as important as your degree. Advertisements print the exact post-by-post breakup — the CDA’s 228-post ad and the Islamabad Police Inspector intake both show it in full.
Practical tip: candidates sometimes qualify under multiple quotas (e.g. ICT domicile + women quota). Apply under the one where your credentials are strongest, and never submit a fake domicile — verification failures end careers before they start.
Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
What applicants ask most — answered.
How can I get a government job in Islamabad?
Apply through fpsc.gov.pk for federal posts, department websites for direct recruitment, and cda.gov.pk/jobs for CDA posts. Match your qualification to the ad, pay the official fee, clear the written test and interview.
What is the age limit for government jobs in Pakistan?
It varies by post — typically 20–28 or 22–30 years plus 5 years general relaxation in the upper limit for most federal posts. The exact limit is always in the advertisement.
What does “sarkari naukri” mean?
The Urdu/Hindi term for government employment — prized for job security, pensions and social status. More on sarkari jobs →
Are contract government jobs worth it?
Contract posts (like CDA’s 2-year terms) pay well and build experience, but carry no right to permanency. Read the terms: “extendable on performance” is not a promise of regularisation.
Can I apply for old advertisements (2020, 2019)?
No — expired advertisements cannot be applied against. Old ads are useful only as preparation material: they show the test pattern, syllabus and eligibility for recurring posts.
What is the FPSC test pattern?
Most FPSC posts start with an MCQ-based written test (general knowledge, English, subject knowledge), followed by a descriptive or psychological assessment for some posts, then the interview. The exact syllabus is in each advertisement.
Do I need sifarish (connections) to get a government job?
FPSC and testing-service recruitment is merit-based and widely trusted — thousands are selected yearly on test scores alone. Prepare well; the system rewards it.
