Eight dead, eight injured in two separate road accidents in K-P

Eight people were killed and eight others injured in two separate K-P road accidents on Friday, rescue officials said. Six people died when a passenger van overturned in Buner, while two children were killed after being run over by a truck in Charsadda.

The van overturned in the Babaji Kandao area of Buner. Six passengers died on the spot and seven others were injured, according to Rescue 1122.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said rescue teams reached the site after receiving information and launched a relief operation. Five ambulances and 20 rescue personnel took part in the operation. They shifted the dead and the injured to hospital. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Children run over by truck in Charsadda

In the second incident, three children were run over by a truck near Tarnab Road in Charsadda. Two of them died and one was injured.

The dead were identified as five-year-old Mubeen, son of Farhadullah, and 11-year-old Saifullah, son of Sher Wali. Fourteen-year-old Yaseen, son of Farhadullah, was injured in the incident.

Rescue teams responded on the instructions of District Emergency Officer Ghayoor Mushtaq Khan. They shifted the children to the District Headquarters Hospital in Charsadda. Initial reports said Mubeen and Yaseen belonged to Gulshanabad Khat Korona, while Saifullah was a resident of Kheshgi.

Governor expresses grief, orders care for injured

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Buner accident. He offered his condolences and sympathies to the families of the six people killed.

The governor also wished the seven injured people a speedy recovery. He directed the relevant authorities to ensure they receive the best possible medical treatment.

The twin tragedies come as road safety stays in the national spotlight. Earlier the same day, Lahore ordered fresh medical tests for all commercial driving licence holders after a crash in Garhi Shahu killed three members of a family. Under that order, existing commercial licence holders must now pass medical examinations to keep driving, a move aimed at catching unfit drivers before they cause the next crash.

Rescue response after the K-P road accidents

Rescue 1122’s spokesperson said teams moved quickly in both cases. In Buner, five ambulances and 20 rescue personnel worked the overturned van, while in Charsadda an ambulance reached the truck-hit children on the district emergency officer’s instructions. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and the dead were shifted for medico-legal formalities.

Police will now examine what caused the Buner van to overturn. Mechanical failure, overloading and driver error are the usual lines of inquiry in such crashes, though officials have not pointed to any cause yet.
