Pakistan Outplay Canada 6-2 in Second Sultan of Johor Cup Match
Pakistan maintained their impressive run at the Sultan of Johor Cup, outplaying Canada 6-2 in their second match at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru on Sunday.
Six different players found the net for the Greenshirts, underlining the attacking depth in the junior squad.
How Pakistan beat Canada
Pakistan took control early against Canada. Hamza Fayyaz gave them the lead in the ninth minute, and Hamza Ali made it 2-0 five minutes later. Rana Abdullah Sami then extended the Greenshirts’ lead to 3-0 in the 25th minute.
Canada scored their first goal through Bhullar Gurnoor in the 30th minute. Pakistan regained their three-goal lead in the 38th minute when Rana Waleed scored. Canada reduced the deficit to 4-2 as Abhiram Yogeshwaran found the net in the 45th minute.
The Pakistan team kept their attacking stance in the final quarter, adding two more goals through Aasam Haider (51st) and Adeel (54th) to record a big victory.
Second straight big win at the Sultan of Johor Cup
The result follows Pakistan’s emphatic 8-3 victory over China in the tournament opener. Fourteen goals in two matches is a statement of intent from the junior side.
The Sultan of Johor Cup is one of the premier junior tournaments in world hockey, and back-to-back wins of this margin put Pakistan in a strong position early in the competition. The challenge now is consistency as the group stage progresses.
The junior team’s form continues a bright spell for Pakistan hockey. Earlier this month, the senior side claimed the Asian Games bronze, and the pipeline of young talent on display in Johor Bahru suggests the future is in good hands.
