JazzWorld, UNICEF Team Up for Digital Inclusion in Pakistan
JazzWorld and UNICEF have signed a Letter of Intent to explore joint initiatives on digital inclusion, youth empowerment, online safety and technology-enabled humanitarian response in Pakistan.
The agreement, signed on Tuesday, sets out four priority areas for future cooperation. It marks a rare pairing of one of Pakistan’s largest digital services companies with the United Nations children’s agency.
The move comes as Pakistan pushes to bring its young population into the digital economy. Both organisations say the partnership aims to reach communities that have so far been left out.
Four priority areas
The Letter of Intent covers four areas of work. The first is digital inclusion and youth empowerment: expanding access to digital education, literacy and skills for young people from underserved communities.
The second is online safety and digital well-being, with a focus on children, adolescents and girls. The partners plan work on awareness, digital literacy and protection against online harassment and abuse.
The third is humanitarian response and disaster preparedness, using mobile technology for disaster preparedness and early warnings. The fourth is advocacy and public engagement, including public campaigns and customer and employee engagement around digital inclusion.
The Digital Youth Hub
A key part of the plan is to strengthen the Prime Minister’s Youth Program Digital Youth Hub, which was established with UNICEF’s support. The hub will use JazzWorld’s technical capabilities to expand its reach.
The hub is meant to give young people a single point of access to digital education, skills training and opportunities. By pairing it with JazzWorld’s connectivity and technology infrastructure, the partners aim to take it to underserved areas where such access is scarce.
Why it matters for Pakistan’s young people
The partnership lands in a country where young people are already chasing digital work. Feature Pakistan has reported on Pakistan’s Digital Nation programme, under which ministries are digitising services and data, and on the Punjab government’s IT internship scheme offering a Rs50,000 stipend, which drew heavy interest from students.
The demand for digital skills is also visible in the growth of freelancing. Our coverage of Gen Z freelancing in Pakistan and our guide to online earning show how many young Pakistanis are already earning through digital platforms. The gap is in access and safety: who gets online, who learns to use the tools, and who is protected while doing so.
That is where this partnership aims to help. The online safety work targets children and girls, groups that face the highest risks online. The disaster preparedness work uses mobile networks for early warnings, which can save lives in a country that faces floods and other climate shocks.
What JazzWorld said
Syed Zaheer Mehdi, Group Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at JazzWorld, said:
“Bridging the digital divide is essential to bridging the emerging AI divide. Young people need access, skills and safe digital environments to benefit from the opportunities AI can create. Our intent to partner with UNICEF reflects a shared ambition to expand opportunities for underserved communities, protect children online and strengthen community resilience. By combining our technology and connectivity capabilities with UNICEF’s expertise in child rights and development, we hope to help build the foundations for an inclusive AI future in Pakistan.”
The statement frames the partnership around the idea that the gap in AI access will follow the gap in digital access. Those without connectivity, skills and safety today will be the ones locked out of AI-driven opportunities tomorrow.
The partnership is at the Letter of Intent stage, which means the organisations have agreed to explore these initiatives together. Specific projects, timelines and funding details have not been announced. Readers can follow Jazz-related coverage in our Technology section, including our guide on the Jazz balance check code.
