Major martyred in Pasni IED blast as four militants die in Kalat raid

The Balochistan IBOs ISPR update issued on Monday confirmed the news. Major Wajahat Waheed, 34, was martyred in Pasni. An improvised explosive device struck the lead force component. This happened during clearance operations in the Shadi Kaur area of Pasni tehsil, Gwadar. In a separate action a day earlier, security forces killed four terrorists. The intelligence-based operation took place in Jattakabad, Kalat district.

The military’s media wing gave the background. It said the two operations followed intelligence reports. Specifically, these reports pointed to multiple hideouts of *Fitna al Hindustan*. The hideouts were in the Shadi Kaur and Pasni areas of Gwadar. They were also in Jattakabad in Kalat district. In addition, the hideouts were described as a threat to the local population.

Balochistan IBOs ISPR: how the two operations unfolded

The first operation took place on October 18. Specifically, it was in the general area of Jattakabad, Kalat. Troops carried out an intelligence-based operation against the reported hideout. They engaged the terrorists in an intense exchange of fire. As a result, four terrorists were eliminated. In addition, a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

“A large cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered,” the ISPR statement said.

The second set of actions came in the general area of Shadi Kaur, Pasni, in Gwadar. There, security forces conducted a series of clearance operations. Subsequently, the lead force component came under attack during one of the operations. It was headed by Major Wajahat Waheed. An IED blast targeted the component. The major was a resident of Lahore. He was martyred on the spot.

According to the ISPR, sanitisation operations would continue. Their goal is to clear any remaining terrorists from the area. It added: “The relentless counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of *Azm-e-Istehkam*, as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue at full pace.”

“Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” the statement said.

Fitna al Hindustan and the wider Balochistan security picture

The state designates Balochistan-based militant groups as *Fitna al Hindustan*. In fact, the label highlights India’s role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan. This is according to Dawn’s reporting on the incident. Moreover, the latest operations are part of an intensified counter-terrorism drive in the province.

The week has been busy for security forces in Balochistan. Eight “India-sponsored” terrorists were killed a day before the Kalat operation. The IBOs were carried out in the Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar districts. For example, on the night of October 12 and 13, forces busted a terrorist hideout in Washuk. They killed five terrorists in an IBO there. Earlier this month, five terrorists were eliminated in the Mastung district.

Provincial officials have also reported arrests in recent IBOs across the province. For example, six terrorists linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan were taken into custody. Two would-be female suicide bombers were also arrested. In addition, two commanders of a banned organisation were taken into custody. Moreover, around 90 arrested terrorists are held at a centre. Investigations and legal proceedings are under way there. Dawn also reported data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). It shows terrorist attacks in the province rose by seven per cent. Specifically, they went from 83 in July to 89 in August. Balochistan was declared the province “most affected” by terrorism.

The pattern matches the tempo of recent ISPR-reported operations in Balochistan through October 2026. Meanwhile, counter-terrorism actions have also intensified in the tribal districts. For example, a recent IBO in North Waziristan killed nine terrorists. The political leadership has kept the pressure on as well. Rana Sanaullah backs a tougher counter-terrorism line in KP.
