High above the world, on the coldest and highest battlefield on earth, Captain Muhammad Asif Tufail Shaheed of the Pakistan Army fought bravely against the Indian Army — and gave his life there on 10 October 2008. The Siachen Glacier does not forgive weakness, and only the bravest soldiers are posted to its ice. Captain Asif Tufail was one of them.
Fighting on the Glacier
An officer of the 109 Long Course serving with the 137 Medium Artillery, Capt Asif Tufail embraced shahadat while fighting bravely against the Indian Army at Siachen. Service on the glacier means enduring temperatures far below freezing, oxygen-thin air, and an enemy dug in across the ice — every day a test of endurance, every patrol a risk. He met that test with the courage expected of a Pakistani officer, and he did not come home.
His eighteenth shahadat anniversary was observed on 10 October 2026 — eighteen years of remembrance for a young captain who stood his post at the roof of the world.
The Glacier Keeps Its Heroes
Every year on 10 October, the nation remembers Captain Muhammad Asif Tufail Shaheed — one of the many brave sons who have held the Siachen line so that Pakistan’s flag flies over those peaks. His sacrifice is woven into the long, proud story of the glacier’s defenders.
We salute Captain Muhammad Asif Tufail Shaheed. He stood where few men can stand, fought where few men dare to fight, and gave everything for his country. His name is written among the eternal defenders of Siachen.
