Nb Sub Hidayat Aman Shaheed: Fallen in Kurram

The mountains of Ghizer make a certain kind of man — hardy, patient, accustomed to thin air and hard ground, the kind of man who does not complain about the cold or the climb. Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman was that kind of man. Forty years old, a resident of District Ghizer in Gilgit-Baltistan, a junior commissioned officer of the Pakistan Army, he carried the mountains with him to one of the country’s most demanding frontiers — and on 10 October 2026, on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram District, he stood his post to the very end.

Pakistani security forces had detected a group of khwarij attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan. The troops, maintaining a high state of alert, engaged the infiltrators effectively — and in the intense exchange of fire that followed, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman fought gallantly and embraced shahadat. His sacrifice was announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations in its press release of 11 October 2026.

The Kurram Engagement

According to the ISPR, the infiltrating group was engaged with precision as it approached the international border. During the encounter, posts across the border also opened fire in support of the infiltrators. Pakistani troops responded with skill, and twelve khwarij and supporting fighters were killed. A sanitisation operation followed to clear the area of any remaining militants.

The military said the incident once again demonstrated the failure of the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent terrorists from using Afghan soil, and reaffirmed that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision would continue at full pace. But behind the operational language of the press release stands a human truth the release itself records: a forty-year-old soldier from Ghizer did not come home.

A Soldier of the Mountains

From the mountains of Ghizer to the border hills of Kurram, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman’s journey ended where a soldier’s duty is heaviest. Junior commissioned officers form the backbone of the Pakistan Army’s frontline units — the link between the officers who plan and the soldiers who execute, the steady hands that hold a position when the firing starts. His forty years had made him one of those steady hands: experienced, trusted by the men beside him, the kind of soldier on whom the defence of the border quietly depends.

On 10 October 2026, those steady hands held their post through an intense exchange of fire — and did not waver. That is the whole story, and it is enough. Gallantry needs no embellishment.

The Anniversary of Shahadat

Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman’s shahadat anniversary will be observed every year on 10 October. He is remembered as a soldier who stood his post on one of the country’s most demanding frontiers and did not waver when the moment came. Each year, his family in District Ghizer, his comrades on the western border, and the nation will mark this day — with prayers, with visits to his resting place, and with the pride of a country that knows what its border cost.

Why Nations Remember

There is a particular debt that nations owe to the families of their martyrs, and it can never be fully repaid — only acknowledged, again and again. Behind the name of Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman is a household in District Ghizer that learned to live with an absence, and a set of comrades on the western border who learned to soldier on with one fewer beside them. To remember him is to remember them too: the ones who bore the heaviest cost of his courage.

Martyrdom, in the tradition of Pakistan’s armed forces, is not treated as a tragedy alone but as an honour — the highest a soldier can attain. That is why the shuhada are named, dated, and recorded in press releases and rolls of honour rather than left to statistics. It is the nation’s way of saying that each sacrifice was seen, and each will be remembered.

The mountains of Ghizer are still there. The border hills of Kurram are still there. And the memory of the steady-handed soldier who walked from one to the other — and stood his post to the very end — will be there too, for as long as Pakistan remembers its own. Pakistan honours Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman Shaheed, and stands with his family in their loss and their pride.
