PSL 12 to begin March 18, 2027 as PCB aligns schedule with South Asian Games

The PSL 12 schedule is taking shape. The Pakistan Super League Governing Council met virtually and agreed to plan the 12th edition around the South Asian Games calendar. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi chaired the meeting.

Sources told Dunya News that the council settled on March 18 as the start date. The final has been proposed for Lahore. Matches are planned across five cities: Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi. The final schedule is yet to be confirmed.

A note on the year. Dunya’s report prints 2026, which is an evident typo. The PCB already confirmed the March 18 to May 2, 2027 window on October 8, following the September 1 Governing Council meeting in London with all eight franchise owners. This report uses the confirmed 2027 window throughout.

PSL 12 schedule agreed in principle

The support period is expected to begin on March 15, three days before the first ball. The player auction for the 12th edition has been proposed for January 23 in Lahore.

Aligning with the South Asian Games was the central item on the agenda. The PCB will finalise the schedule after accounting for the Games calendar, so dates could still shift at the margins.

Final proposed for Lahore

Lahore has been proposed as the venue for the final. Gaddafi Stadium hosted the PSL 11 decider in May, when a packed house watched Peshawar Zalmi chase down Hyderabad Kingsmen’s target with five wickets in hand (the final sold out Gaddafi Stadium).

Rawalpindi, Karachi, Faisalabad and Multan are in line to host the rest of the tournament.

Player auction set for January 23

The proposed January 23 auction in Lahore will be the league’s second under the auction system. The first-ever PSL auction took place in February, when 103 players were picked on two-year contracts covering PSL 11 and 12. Franchises may retain up to seven players.

That system reshaped squads last season and produced several breakout performers (Pakistan’s rising stars in the PSL). Another auction round should give teams room to rebuild around their retained cores.

Why the South Asian Games matter

The South Asian Games force the PCB to thread a narrow scheduling needle. The league already sits in a crowded international calendar, and a multi-sport event involving Pakistan’s athletes adds another fixed block to plan around. The council’s decision shows the board wants certainty early rather than a last-minute reshuffle.

March to early May keeps the league in its familiar weather window. It also gives the eight returning franchises a full pre-season runway after the auction: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz.

Defending champions and last season’s story

Peshawar Zalmi are the defending champions after beating Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the PSL 11 final on May 3, 2026 (Babar Azam’s first PSL title). The playoffs delivered several memorable finishes (PSL 11 playoffs), including a hat-trick that lit up the league stage (hat-trick in PSL 11).

Lahore Qalandars were among the sides to impress in PSL 11 (their commanding win over Hyderabad Kingsmen), which makes the proposed Lahore final an intriguing prospect for the home crowd.

What happens next

The PCB will announce the final schedule after it factors in the South Asian Games. The January auction in Lahore is the next confirmed milestone. Expect franchise retentions and the auction player list to dominate the build-up through December.
