Ten bullet-riddled bodies found across four Balochistan districts

GWADAR: Ten bullet-riddled bodies found in Balochistan have been recovered from the Gwadar, Kech, Khuzdar and Washuk districts over the past two days, in the latest grim discovery in the province.

Four bodies were found in Pasni, a coastal town in Gwadar district. One of them was identified as a student of the University of Gwadar who had been reported missing.

Bodies found in Balochistan: where the discoveries were made

In Kech district’s Buleda tehsil, police found two bodies in the Selo Kour area and shifted them to a hospital. Their identities could not be ascertained immediately.

More bodies were found in the Washuk and Khuzdar districts. According to sources, the body of a man found near the Siahonzai grid station in Washuk’s Basima area was identified as Muhammad Amir, a resident of Basima. Another body was found a day earlier in the Mula Cross area of Khuzdar’s Khuzarak-Karak region.

The motive behind the killings remains unclear. Most of the dead have not yet been identified, and police have not said whether the separate discoveries are connected. Police shifted the recovered bodies to hospitals for legal formalities while working to establish the identities of the remaining victims. In several of the cases, the identities could not be ascertained immediately, leaving investigators to piece together who the victims were and how they ended up where they were found.

The discoveries add to a series of reported killings across the province, and authorities have yet to establish whether such incidents are linked, according to monitoring of the cases.

The identification of the University of Gwadar student adds a worrying dimension. Students and young people have been among those reported missing in the province in recent years, and the recovery of a missing student’s body is likely to raise fresh questions about their safety.

A province under pressure

The discoveries come against a difficult security backdrop. On the same day, the younger brother of a Balochistan chief minister’s adviser was abducted from the Mand area of Kech district, while the province has announced a Rs14 billion counterterrorism drive as violence-linked deaths surged in the third quarter of the year.

Balochistan has seen repeated cycles of killings and abductions, and the recovery of ten bodies from four districts within two days underlines the scale of the challenge facing law enforcement.
