Tyson Fury Rates Daniel Dubois Among Best Heavyweights
Tyson Fury has declared Daniel Dubois “one of the best heavyweights on the scene at the moment”, praising the Londoner’s remarkable career revival after his devastating knockout win over Fabio Wardley.
Dubois stopped Wardley in the second round of their rematch on Saturday, having already beaten him by an 11th-round knockout in May to claim the WBO title. Fury, the former world champion, said Dubois deserved full credit for what he and his team have built.
What Tyson Fury said about Daniel Dubois
“Daniel’s done absolutely fantastic in his career,” Fury said. “He’s had some unbelievable nights in boxing and he’s had some not unbelievable nights in boxing, like the night against Joe Joyce and the two fights with Usyk — they wasn’t so unbelievable for him.”
“But he’s overcome that and he’s grown with age and I believe he’s one of the best, if not the best heavyweight on the scene at the moment. Young at 29 years old, fresh, and he seems to be getting better which is a testament to his trainer, Don Charles and himself and everybody else who’s involved.”
Fury also praised Dubois’s trainer: “I think Don doesn’t get enough credit for the job he does. He looks after these fighters not only as fighters but as children…”
Dubois’s road back to the top
The 29-year-old’s journey has had sharp turns. He turned professional young and beat all his early opponents before a knockout defeat to Joe Joyce. He rebuilt with wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua to earn the IBF world title.
Two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk followed, but Dubois refused to fade. The May knockout of Wardley made him a world champion again, and Saturday’s second-round stoppage in the rematch underlined his form.
What comes next
Dubois has said he wants to fight Fury if he comes through against Joshua in December, which makes a bout with Agit Kabayel unlikely any time soon. A Fury vs Dubois clash would be one of the biggest all-British heavyweight fights in years.
Feature Pakistan has followed the heavyweight picture closely, including the growing talk of a Joshua vs Fury showdown. Dubois’s surge adds another major name to the mix at the top of the division.
