Tecno Spark 50s and 50C Debut With Off-Grid Calls and Texts
Tecno has expanded its Spark 50 lineup with two new smartphones: the Spark 50s and the Spark 50C. The standout feature on both devices is FreeLink 2.0, a peer-to-peer communication technology that allows calls and text messages without any network connection within a range of up to 1.5 kilometres, reports ProPakistani.
The Spark 50s joins the existing Spark 50 4G, Spark 50 5G and Spark 50 Pro, while the Spark 50C arrived as a surprise addition to the series.
FreeLink 2.0: why it matters here
FreeLink 2.0 is built into select Tecno smartphones and works device-to-device, with no cellular tower or Wi-Fi required. For Pakistan, that is more than a gimmick. Floods, earthquakes and long stretches of remote highway routinely leave travellers and residents without coverage. A phone that can still reach a family member 1.5 kilometres away during a disaster or on a road with no signal has genuine value.
Design and display
Both phones carry 6.78-inch HD+ LCDs with 120Hz refresh rates. The Spark 50s has a centred punch-hole selfie camera, an IP64 Pro rating and MIL-STD-810H certification, and comes in Breeze Blue and Burgundy Red.
The Spark 50C is the tougher of the two. It can be operated with wet or oily hands and carries stronger IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings. It is offered in Burgundy Red, Forge Orange, Basalt Titanium and Eclipse Black.
Performance and software
The Spark 50s runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 chipset and HiOS 16 based on Android 16. It ships with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with a dedicated microSD slot allowing expansion up to 2TB. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and all-scenario noise cancellation.
The Spark 50C is a 4G device powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 chipset, with 4GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, also on Android 16. It adds dual stereo speakers, AI call noise cancellation and an IR blaster.
Cameras and battery
The Spark 50s has a single 50MP primary camera on the back with an LED flash and an 8MP front camera. The Spark 50C uses a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera.
Battery is a strong point for the 50s: a 6,500mAh pack with 45W fast charging, plus reverse wired charging and bypass charging. The 50C gets a 5,200mAh battery with 15W charging. The 6GB + 128GB Spark 50s is priced at roughly $211, while the 8GB + 128GB variant costs around $242. Pricing and availability for the Spark 50C have not been announced yet.
