Google AI Plus to Lose Pro Models on November 13: What Changes
ISLAMABAD: The Google AI Plus downgrade is now confirmed: from November 13, 2026, the $4.99-a-month plan will no longer let subscribers manually select Google’s Pro AI models in the Gemini app or AI Mode in Search. Google has begun emailing Plus subscribers about the change, according to the notice reproduced by Droid Life.
Under the change, Plus subscribers will keep the Flash and Flash-Lite models but lose manual selection of the more capable Pro models. Existing conversations that used a Pro model will still open, but they will continue on a different model. The notice does not say which model will take over in each case.
The email, sent by the Google One team, states: “Starting on 13 November 2026, the ability to select Pro models in both the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search will only be available to Google AI Pro subscribers and above.”
Google AI Plus downgrade: what changes on November 13
The restriction covers model selection only — the Plus subscription itself continues. After November 13, a Plus subscriber opening the Gemini app will be able to choose between Flash and Flash-Lite, while the Pro option disappears.
This is not the first deadline Google has set. MovilZona earlier reported an October 9 cutoff for the same restriction, but that date passed without effect. The November 13 date now comes directly from Google’s own subscriber notice, reproduced and independently reported by outlets including Droid Life, 9to5Google and gHacks.
The $15-a-month gap to AI Pro
Keeping manual Pro-model access means moving to Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month — a $15 jump that quadruples the monthly bill. The higher tier also brings four times the usage allowance (up from two on Plus), 5TB of storage (up from 400GB) and 1,000 Google Flow credits (up from 200), according to Google’s published plan details.
Pro subscribers also get Google’s newest flagship, Gemini 4 Argon, which Google limited to Pro and Ultra subscribers at launch, while free accounts now run only on Flash-Lite.
What it costs Pakistani subscribers
For Pakistani users, the sums land differently. At current exchange rates, the Plus plan costs roughly Rs1,400 a month — affordable for students and freelancers using AI for study and work. Moving to AI Pro would push the bill to roughly Rs5,600 a month, an extra Rs4,200 every month just to keep Pro-model selection.
That matters because Google has actively courted Pakistani users. Google previously offered Pakistani students a free one-year AI Pro plan, and a free Gemini subscription plan for students remains one way for learners to access AI tools without paying.
For local context, monthly digital subscriptions in Pakistan cost far less: Apple Music launched in Pakistan at Rs379 a month, and Samsung users in Pakistan were offered three months of Spotify Premium free. Against those benchmarks, Rs5,600 a month is a steep ask for most casual users.
Who the Plus plan still suits
The downgrade does not kill the Plus plan. For everyday questions, drafting and brainstorming, Flash models are fast and capable. Subscribers who never touched the Pro selector will notice nothing on November 13.
The loss hurts power users: coders, researchers and writers who relied on Pro models for reasoning-heavy work. For them, the choice is stark — test whether Flash is good enough, or pay four times more for Pro.
