LinkedIn Carries the Most AI-Generated ‘Slop’ of Any Major Platform, Research Finds

LinkedIn AI slop has reached the worst levels of any major platform: more than 40% of long-form posts on LinkedIn are AI-generated, according to research by AI-content detection firm Pangram, as reported by ProPakistani.

A July report from the firm found around 30% of long posts on X and Medium were AI-written, with lower levels on Reddit and Substack. LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, increasingly sees generic AI-written posts as a serious problem.

LinkedIn editor-in-chief Dan Roth says low-quality AI content creates a business risk because the posts begin to sound alike. When users repeatedly encounter generic posts instead of content that teaches them something, the platform risks losing their attention to rivals.

LinkedIn AI slop: how the platform is fighting back

In August, LinkedIn added a button letting users report posts that “seem like AI slop”. Users clicked the option more than 1 million times in the first two weeks.

The company is now using its own AI systems to identify low-quality AI-generated content and reduce how widely those posts are distributed. If the model flags a post as AI slop, the platform can limit its reach beyond the author’s direct connections.

LinkedIn says the effort is already working. Last month it reported that improved detection had caused a 40% drop in views of content classified as AI slop.

The company has also built a team largely made up of former journalists and social media specialists to identify what useful, authentic posts look like. These experts help train LinkedIn’s detection systems. A separate creator management team, which Roth described as “content therapists”, coaches executives and experts on writing in their own voice.

LinkedIn previously offered AI tools to edit or rewrite posts, but it has recently scaled those features back.

The problem with posts that all sound the same

Roth says some creators now write posts with tools such as Claude or Gemini, publish them on LinkedIn, and then ask why they performed poorly. His team’s response is often to ask whether the creator actually enjoyed reading the post and whether it sounded like them.

The company is not opposed to AI assistance altogether. Roth notes that not everyone is naturally a strong communicator. But posts that are not edited, personalised or made more authentic are now far less likely to reach a wide audience.

The shift mirrors a wider crackdown across the industry. Google has built AI agents for workplace communication, Instagram is testing AI creation tools in DMs, and the IMF chief has warned that the AI boom is bypassing most workers.

What it means for Pakistani users

LinkedIn is one of the most-used platforms among Pakistani professionals, freelancers and job seekers. Remote-work guides rank it among the top places to find online work, and Pakistan’s growing freelance workforce relies on it for clients and credibility.

For those users, the crackdown is good news. Generic AI posts make it harder for genuine profiles to stand out, and employers hunting through lookalike content may miss real talent. Writing in your own voice — even with AI used as a drafting aid — is now the surest way to be seen. Women returning to remote work in Pakistan have the same incentive: authentic posts travel further than slop.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI slop?

AI slop is low-quality, generic content produced by AI tools with little editing or personal input. On LinkedIn it typically means motivational-style posts that all sound the same.

How much LinkedIn content is AI-generated?

Pangram’s July report found more than 40% of long-form LinkedIn posts were AI-generated, compared with around 30% on X and Medium and lower levels on Reddit and Substack.

How is LinkedIn detecting AI slop?

LinkedIn lets users report suspected AI slop (over 1 million reports in the first two weeks) and uses AI detection systems, trained with help from former journalists, to reduce the reach of flagged posts.

Can I still use AI to help write LinkedIn posts?

Yes. LinkedIn is not opposed to AI assistance. But posts that are not edited, personalised or made authentic are now far less likely to appear beyond your direct connections.
