Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the Apna Ghar Scheme, announcing a major plan to provide 500,000 homes across Pakistan. This Scheme will also cover Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, making it a nationwide housing initiative.
At a ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister distributed cheques to successful applicants. This step marks the practical start of the Apna Ghar Scheme. Moreover, officials confirmed that the process aims to support low- and middle-income families.
Speaking at the event, Shehbaz Sharif said that housing remains a basic need. Therefore, the government has made the Scheme a top priority. He explained that many families still live without a proper shelter. As a result, the government wants to ensure access to affordable housing.
In the first phase, the government has allocated Rs321 billion. This funding will support the construction of 50,000 homes under the Apna Ghar Scheme. Meanwhile, the long-term goal is to complete 500,000 houses within four years.
In addition, the prime minister shared that beneficiaries from Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have already received cheques. He also assured that he will review this Scheme every month. This approach will help maintain transparency and speed.
Furthermore, the government designed this Scheme in consultation with experts and the private sector. Because of this, authorities expect smoother implementation. The scheme will operate in Islamabad, all provinces, and other regions.
Another key feature of the Apna Ghar Scheme is its easy loan process. The government has simplified financing, making it easier for more people to apply. As a result, access to housing loans will become easier for ordinary citizens.
At the same time, the prime minister highlighted the role of the construction sector. He said it boosts economic growth and creates jobs. Therefore, this scheme will also support economic activity.
Finally, the government continues to encourage exporters. It has given top exporters ambassador status along with special travel privileges. This step aims to strengthen Pakistan’s global trade image alongside domestic development through the Apna Ghar Scheme.
