MCB Bank Posts Rs 41.4 Billion Profit for 9 Months
KARACHI: MCB Bank Limited (PSX: MCB) has reported a Rs 41.4 billion after-tax profit for the 9-month period ended September 30, 2026, on a profit before tax of Rs 86.3 billion, according to the bank’s results reported by ProPakistani.
Earnings per share stood at Rs 34.95. On a consolidated basis, profit before tax reached Rs 92.7 billion while profit after tax amounted to Rs 44.3 billion. The bank declared a third interim cash dividend of Rs 9 per share for 2026, taking total announced cash dividends for the year to Rs 27 per share.
Dividends climb to Rs 27 per share
The Rs 9 payout extends a generous year for MCB shareholders, with the bank passing a large share of earnings back to investors even as it funds balance-sheet growth. Income growth outpaces a rising cost base
Total income rose 7 per cent year on year to Rs 144.3 billion. Net markup income increased to Rs 114.8 billion from Rs 108.8 billion in the same period last year. Non-markup income grew faster, up 14 per cent to Rs 29.6 billion, with fee and commission income climbing 26 per cent to Rs 17.6 billion and foreign exchange income reaching Rs 5.945 billion.
Operating expenses rose 10 per cent from last year, and the bank reported a cost-to-income ratio of 38.61 per cent, leaving it among the more efficient large banks in the system.
Deposits and advances beat the industry
MCB’s balance sheet expanded well ahead of the industry average. Total assets grew Rs 336 billion, or 10 per cent, from the end of 2025 to Rs 3.6 trillion at September 30, 2026. Deposits increased by Rs 447 billion to Rs 2.71 trillion, with deposit growth of 22.2 per cent against industry growth of 9.1 per cent.
Current deposits rose by Rs 181 billion, or 15 per cent, to Rs 1.4 trillion, lifting the bank’s deposit market share by 65 basis points to 6.03 per cent. Gross advances reached Rs 819 billion, growing 11 per cent in the first nine months against industry growth of just 3 per cent, while consumer financing expanded 34 per cent.
Asset quality held steady. Non-performing loans declined by Rs 710 million to Rs 49.05 billion, with the infection ratio at 5.99 per cent and the loan coverage ratio at 93.53 per cent. The capital adequacy ratio stood at 18.99 per cent, while the Common Equity Tier-1 ratio was 14.80 per cent.
The bank also processed $3.276 billion in home remittances during the nine-month period, about a tenth of the national total, as monthly remittances remained a key pillar of household inflows. The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency reaffirmed MCB’s long-term rating at AAA in June, and the bank operates more than 1,700 branches.
A strong result on a weak market day
MCB’s numbers landed on a day when investors were anything but confident about banks. Meezan Bank reported a Rs73.94 billion profit for the same nine-month period, up 7 per cent, yet the benchmark KSE-100 Index crashed 2,006 points on Thursday with several large banking shares among the biggest drags.
The contrast is telling. Bank balance sheets look healthy, with deposit growth outpacing the industry and credit quality stable, but the market is pricing in macro fears instead: rising oil prices and geopolitical tension. Even as the State Bank’s latest reserves data showed buffers at $21.49 billion, banks like MCB kept collecting deposits and growing advances. For now, strong earnings are not enough to calm a market worried about the bigger picture.
