Four methods
How to Track Your Passport
Four official ways to check where your application stands — pick the one that suits you.
| Method | How | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Online | dgip.gov.pk → Track Your Application → enter 11-digit token number (or CNIC) | Full status detail, from anywhere |
| SMS | Send your token number to 9988 | Quick check, no internet needed |
| Helpline | Call 051-111-344-777 | Stuck cases, detailed queries |
| In person | Visit the Regional Passport Office where you applied, with your receipt | Complex cases, document issues |
A note of honesty: the DGIP website’s tracking form has been intermittently unavailable at times — if the online form doesn’t load, the SMS and helpline methods always work as backup. Never enter your CNIC or token number on unofficial websites offering “tracking”. Step-by-step: how to check passport status.
The key
Your Token Number Explained
Everything in passport tracking runs on this one number.
Digits
Your token number is an 11-digit unique reference generated the moment your application is accepted.
Where to find it
Printed on the receipt slip from the data-entry counter. Online applicants get it by email/SMS too.
Keep it safe
It identifies your application — don’t share photos of your receipt publicly. Lost it? Your CNIC works as backup.

How long
Passport Processing Times
DGIP’s official timelines — courier time to remote areas and missions abroad is extra.
| Category | In Pakistan | At missions abroad |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 21 working days | 4–6 weeks |
| Urgent | 5 working days | 2–3 weeks |
| Fast Track | 2 working days (47 cities) | Not available |
Your passport goes into production only after fee payment is confirmed. Peak seasons — summer, Eid, Hajj — can add delays. Applying? See online passport application Pakistan.
Decoding
What Each Status Means
The tracking stages, in the order you’ll usually see them.
In Process / Under Process
Verification stage: security checks, biometric validation, document verification. The longest stage — typically 5–15 working days for normal applications.
Sent for Printing
Verification complete; your passport is at the printing facility in Islamabad. Usually printed within days.
Dispatched / Ready for Collection
On its way to you (home delivery) or ready at the office where you applied. Bring your original token to collect.
Deferred / On Hold
Something needs attention — usually a document mismatch. DGIP typically informs you by phone; call the helpline to resolve it.
Abroad
Tracking from Abroad
Overseas Pakistanis have dedicated channels.
If you applied at a Pakistani embassy or consulate, or through the online portal from abroad: use the DGIP online tracker, contact the mission where you applied with your receipt/token number, or email the Online Passport Section at mrponline@dgip.gov.pk with your Online Tracking ID and CNIC. DGIP’s Email Rabta service sends status updates to overseas applicants by email. Timelines are longer abroad — 4–6 weeks for normal applications.
Stuck?
If Your Passport Is Delayed
Don’t just wait — delays usually have a specific, fixable cause.
The most common causes: a record mismatch (CNIC details vs application data), a deferred case awaiting documents, or peak-season backlog. First, double-check the token number you’re entering — a single wrong digit shows a blank result, not an error. Then call 051-111-344-777 or email opts@dgip.gov.pk with your name, mobile number, CNIC, token number and address. You can also lodge a complaint on the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal. For urgent travel, ask about an Emergency Travel Document. Only the applicant or a blood relative can collect the passport, with the original token.
Options
Passport Types and Fees
Not all Pakistani passports are the same — page counts, validity and the e-passport option.
Standard passport
36 pages, 5-year validity — the default for most travellers. Also available in 72 and 100-page versions for frequent flyers.
E-passport
Biometric chip storing your photo and fingerprints, for faster automated border clearance worldwide. Available alongside the standard MRP.
Validity
Choose 5 or 10 years at application (fees differ). Children’s passports are typically 5-year.
Fees vary by page count, validity and processing speed (Normal/Urgent/Fast Track) — DGIP revises the fee schedule periodically, so confirm the current rates on dgip.gov.pk before paying. Applying? Online application guide.
