Pakistan’s 2026 ranking explained

What 102nd place actually means.

The Henley Passport Index — published by Henley & Partners using IATA data — ranks 199 passports by how many of 227 destinations their holders can enter without arranging a visa in advance. In the July 2026 edition, Pakistan holds 102nd place with a score of 29. Ranks are shared between countries with equal scores, so the table runs to 105 positions; Pakistan’s spot means only four scores sit at or below it: Yemen (30), Iraq (28), Syria (25) and Afghanistan (22). At the top, Singapore leads with 192 destinations, followed by Japan, South Korea and the UAE.

Rankings fluctuate between editions as visa policies change and as Henley revises its methodology; the table above follows the widely reported figures for each year. The long-run picture is stability near the bottom — Pakistan has been the fourth-weakest passport for several consecutive years.

Why the passport ranks so low

It is about diplomacy, not wealth.

Passport strength tracks the bilateral visa-waiver agreements a country has negotiated — and Pakistan has negotiated few. Security perceptions, overstay rates and limited diplomatic reciprocity keep most doors closed, while regional peers like India (55 destinations) and Bangladesh (35) have steadily widened their access. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the 2026 uptick as a step forward and pledged further efforts — but meaningful movement will require sustained diplomatic work, not a single year’s revision.
