The Team
Squad 2026
The Yellow Storm’s XI.
Captain: Babar Azam — the reinvented T20 destroyer (103* in the qualifier). Mohammad Haris: powerplay chaos (35 off 16 in the qualifier). Kusal Mendis: the Sri Lankan anchor (41 in the qualifier). Aaron Hardie: seam and hitting (3/24). Sufiyan Muqeem: the mystery spinner. Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Basit (2/19): the pace depth.
PSL 2026
The 2026 Season
The nearly-men.
Zalmi stormed the playoffs, then dismantled Islamabad United by 70 runs in the qualifier — Babar’s 103 off 59, Haris’s 35 (16), Mendis’s 41; Hardie 3/24 and Basit 2/19 finishing the chase. Their second PSL title ended a nine-year wait — the Yellow Storm’s best season in years, built on Babar’s evolution and fearless young batting.
28 April 2026
The Qualifier: Zalmi 221/7 Beat IU by 70 Runs
The night Babar ended the debate.
Islamabad United won the toss and bowled — and were dismantled. Babar Azam’s 103 off 59 balls (12 fours, 4 sixes) was the innings of PSL 11: measured early, brutal late, the anchor who became the destroyer. Mohammad Haris smashed 35 off 16 at the top, Kusal Mendis anchored with 41 off 26, and Zalmi piled up 221/7. The chase never got going: IU folded for 151 in 18.4 overs — Aaron Hardie 3/24, Mohammad Basit 2/19, Sufiyan Muqeem 2/25. Won by 70 runs. Player of the match: Babar Azam. The fiercest rivalry in the PSL — now 14–13 to Zalmi across 28 meetings — had its most one-sided playoff chapter.
3 May 2026
The Final: Zalmi’s Second Title
Gaddafi Stadium, 32,461 witnesses.
The final, at a packed Gaddafi Stadium (crowd: 32,461), was won the Zalmi way — with the ball first. Hyderabad Kingsmen, the debutant franchise, were strangled to 129 all out: Aaron Hardie’s 4/27 ripping through the middle order, Saim Ayub’s 54 the only resistance of note. The chase wobbled, then steadied: Hardie again, 56 not out, carrying Zalmi to 130/5 in 15.2 overs — won by 5 wickets. Nine years after Darren Sammy lifted the 2017 trophy in Lahore, Babar Azam lifted the 2026 one in the same city. The nearly-men era was over; the Yellow Storm were champions again.
2027
PSL 12: The Title Defence
18 March – 2 May 2027.
PSL 12 is confirmed for 18 March to 2 May 2027 — and for the first time since the inaugural auction, the player auction returns. Zalmi defend the title with the core intact: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Haris, Kusal Mendis, Aaron Hardie, Sufiyan Muqeem. The questions: who do Zalmi retain before the auction, which overseas slots they target, and whether the 2026 champions can do what no Zalmi side has done — win back-to-back titles. Bookmark this page: when PSL 12 begins, it becomes the live hub — toss, XIs, streaming, ball-by-ball.

Since 2016
History
The Zalmi story.
2016: founded — Javed Afridi’s yellow dream. 2017: champions — beating Quetta in the final. 2018, 2019: finalists, beaten. 2020–2025: playoff regulars, nearly-men. 2026: champions again — Babar’s team, the best Zalmi side since the 2017 title. The brand: the PSL’s biggest fanbase, the anthem, the storm.
The lean years, honestly: between the 2019 final defeat and the 2026 triumph, Zalmi made the playoffs almost every season and lost them — the 2022 Eliminator went their way against IU, but Eliminator 2 in 2024 saw IU chase 185 to knock them out. The pattern — thrilling league stage, playoff heartbreak — is exactly what Babar’s 2026 side broke. And the 2017 final deserves its own footnote: the first PSL final played on Pakistani soil, in Lahore, with Sammy dancing with the trophy and learning Pashto phrases — the night Peshawar fell in love with the Yellow Storm for good. Nine years later, Babar’s champions gave the city the sequel it had waited for — and the 2027 title defence is the next chapter.
The Storm
The Fans
Why Zalmi matters.
Peshawar Zalmi has the PSL’s most passionate fanbase — the Yellow Storm fills stadiums from Karachi to Rawalpindi. Javed Afridi’s ownership made Zalmi a brand beyond cricket: the anthem, the Zalmi Foundation’s social work, the China connection. In KP, Zalmi isn’t a team — it’s identity.
The Record
Zalmi vs Karachi: Head to Head
The recent story.
| Measure | Peshawar Zalmi | Karachi Kings |
|---|---|---|
| PSL titles | 2 (2017, 2026) | 1 (2020) |
| 2026 finish | Champions | Mid-table |
| Captain | Babar Azam | — |
| Fanbase | The Yellow Storm | Kings’ court |
Edge: Zalmi — recent form, squad depth, and momentum all point yellow.
The Captain
Babar’s Zalmi
The reinvention.
Babar Azam joined Zalmi and became something new: the anchor who accelerates. The qualifier hundred — 103 off 59, 12 fours, 4 sixes — was the innings of PSL 2026: measured early, brutal late. As captain, he’s built Zalmi around fearless youth (Haris, Saim) and trusted pros (Mendis, Hardie). The debate — accumulator or destroyer — ended on 28 April 2026.
2017
The 2017 Title
How the storm began.
PSL 2017: Zalmi — led by Darren Sammy — beat Quetta Gladiators in the Lahore final (the first PSL final on Pakistani soil) to lift the trophy. Sammy’s love affair with Peshawar (he learned Pashto phrases, danced with the trophy) made him an honorary Pakistani. The title built the brand: yellow everywhere, the anthem, the storm.

Beyond Cricket
The Zalmi Foundation
The bigger game.
The Zalmi Foundation — Javed Afridi’s social arm — works in education, health and youth development across KP: schools, cricket talent hunts, disaster relief. It’s why Zalmi is more than a franchise in Peshawar — it’s a institution.
The Feuds
Zalmi’s Rivals
Every storm has enemies.
Islamabad United: the fiercest — 3 titles vs 2; the 2026 qualifier (Zalmi by 70) is the latest chapter. Karachi Kings: the crowd fixture. Lahore Qalandars: the 2018–19 final rematches. Quetta Gladiators: the 2017 final — where it all began. Zalmi doesn’t lack for enemies — or for beating them.
