Israel has announced that the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will reopen starting February 1, 2026. The move comes as part of the recently implemented Gaza ceasefire agreement.
According to international media reports, the crossing will resume operations after a prolonged closure during the conflict. Rafah is the only land route linking Gaza with Egypt and has been a critical humanitarian gateway.
Israeli authorities said the crossing will operate under strict and limited conditions. Travel between Gaza and Egypt will be permitted, but officials have not yet confirmed the daily number of travelers allowed.
Only Palestinians who left for Egypt during the war will be allowed to return to Gaza, subject to Israeli security clearance. The return process will be coordinated with Egyptian officials.
Israel had taken control of the Rafah crossing in May 2024 during the escalation of the Gaza war. Its reopening was also included as a key point in the first phase of the ceasefire framework.
