Amazon refreshes its Kindle line for 2026 with three new e-readers

Amazon announced its Kindle 2026 refresh on October 1, covering the base Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite and the colour-screen Kindle Colorsoft. All three models arrive slimmer and lighter than their predecessors, and Amazon is offering aluminium-backed versions across the range for the first time.

The 2026 refresh also brings three new accessories, including a Bluetooth page-turn remote. Amazon says battery life now stretches to six weeks on the base model and up to 12 weeks on the Paperwhite.

Kindle 12th Gen leads the Kindle 2026 refresh

The entry-level Kindle keeps its six-inch e-ink display but moves to rounder corners and a flush front panel. Four colourways are available: Ube, Graphite, Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green, with the Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green versions carrying aluminium backs.

Amazon claims books now open 30 per cent faster than on the previous model. The power button has shifted to the right side. Plastic versions weigh 140 grams, while the aluminium-backed models add roughly 20 grams. Pricing starts at $150 for the 16GB Ube and Graphite models, rising to $190 for the 32GB aluminium-backed versions.

Paperwhite 7th Gen focuses on the display

The new Paperwhite retains its seven-inch e-ink screen, though Amazon says the panel delivers a stronger contrast ratio for easier reading outdoors. The device is thinner and lighter, and battery life is rated at up to 12 weeks.

The standard model ships with 16GB of storage in Graphite for $200. A Signature Edition adds an aluminium back, an auto-adjusting front light and 32GB of storage, priced at $250 in Graphite and Seaglass Green.

Colorsoft 2nd Gen carries colour reading forward

The second-generation Kindle Colorsoft is likewise thinner and lighter than the model it replaces. It comes in Graphite and Fig, with a Signature Edition adding an aluminium rear panel. The standard Colorsoft costs $290, and the Signature Edition is priced at $320.

Three new accessories

Amazon also unveiled three add-ons. The Kindle Click, a Bluetooth page-turn remote, costs $35. A Page-Turn Cover with built-in page-turn buttons is priced at $80, and a new charging dock costs $60. GSMArena’s launch coverage has the full hands-on detail.

The refresh lands in a busy season for device launches.
