Grand Theft Auto VI has received a PEGI 18 rating, and the GTA 6 PEGI drug content details are striking: the rating board’s published description says players can carry cocaine and snort it from their hand during gameplay. PEGI, the European ratings body, describes drug use in the game as frequent and prominent. The listing was published on October 2 and pulled from PEGI’s website a day later, though the details had already been widely reported.
The rating text says players can use illegal substances alongside other characters and directly from their inventory. Cocaine use is presented as interactive rather than limited to cutscenes or scripted missions, according to the description.
PEGI does not explain whether taking drugs changes health, stamina, perception, missions, or other systems inside the game.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6 PEGI drug content: interactive use as a mechanic
The wording matters. PEGI distinguishes between drug references and drug use, and its GTA 6 description puts the game in the second group. Carrying cocaine in inventory and snorting it at any time makes drug use a player action, not background decoration.
The Grand Theft Auto series has long featured drugs in its stories, but interactive use goes a step beyond watching a cutscene. The rating gives no detail on any visual or gameplay effects tied to the mechanic.
Violence, sex and language descriptors
The PEGI 18 classification also covers violence, sex, drugs, and in-game purchases. PEGI says the game contains frequent realistic violence, and that certain weapons can cause detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
The game carries strong sexual themes, including nudity and scenes of intercourse. Players can visit nightclubs and pay for private dances with interactive elements.
Strong language runs through the game, and PEGI notes discriminatory language heard through in-game television and radio. For parents, age ratings are the key tool for deciding what children play — Kaspersky’s research on the most popular apps among Pakistani children shows what young audiences are actually using.
Launch and story details
GTA 6 follows Jason and Lucia, a pair caught up in a criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida, which includes Vice City. Rockstar has set November 19, 2026 as the release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Separately, a datamine suggests the game may require PS5 firmware 14.10 at launch, which would block jailbroken consoles. Video Games Chronicle’s report on the pulled rating has the full content breakdown.
The PEGI listing is the rating board’s account of the game’s content, not Rockstar’s marketing. It offers the clearest official picture yet of what players will encounter.
