The Debutants
Six players at their first senior World Cup: captain Agha himself, Faheem Ashraf, Nafay, Mirza, Farhan and Usman Tariq. For Farhan — 1,305 T20I runs, two hundreds — it’s a coronation; for Nafay and Mirza, a leap of faith by the selectors.
Group and Fixtures
Group A: India, Pakistan, Netherlands, USA, Namibia. Pakistan’s matches — all in Colombo under the hybrid model: Netherlands (7 Feb), USA (10 Feb), India (15 Feb, R. Premadasa), Namibia (18 Feb). Top two reach the Super Eight; the tournament runs to 8 March.
Verdict
On paper, Pakistan’s most balanced T20 squad in years: power at the top, all-round depth, two world-class new-ball bowlers and mystery spin. The ceiling is the trophy; the floor is the group stage. Which Pakistan turns up against India on 15 February will define the campaign. More in our squad pillar guide.
Did Pakistan win the T20 World Cup 2026?
The tournament runs 7 February–8 March 2026 — this guide will be updated with results as the campaign unfolds.
Why are Pakistan playing in Sri Lanka?
Under the ICC’s hybrid (fusion) model, Pakistan play all their matches in Sri Lanka rather than travelling to co-hosts India; knockouts involving Pakistan would also be staged in Colombo.
