Khyber Policeman Martyred in Jamrud Ambush; Body of Another Found Near Sakhi Pul

A Khyber policeman was martyred in a targeted attack in Jamrud on Friday, while police recovered the bullet-marked body of another policeman from the same tehsil, officials said.

The two incidents, reported on Saturday, have added to the toll of police personnel killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year.

A Khyber policeman martyred on duty

Officials at the Khyber DPO office in Shahkas said unidentified gunmen targeted police constable Kamran Khan near his home in Jalaldin Kalay, within the limits of the Jamrud police station, while he was on his way to the police station.

The constable received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, managed to flee after the attack, officials said.

A case has been registered against unidentified assailants, and investigations are underway to trace the culprits. No individual or organisation took responsibility for the targeted killing of the policeman.

The funeral prayers of the martyred official were later offered at the Shahkas Police Centre in Jamrud. The gathering was attended by the CCPO Peshawar, the DPO Khyber and officials of the district administration, along with tribal elders and family members.

Body of Bahadur Shah found near Sakhi Pul

In a separate incident, the body of a policeman hailing from Peshawar was found near Sakhi Pul in the Ghundi area of Jamrud early on Friday morning.

Police in Jamrud said the deceased was identified as Bahadur Shah, who had multiple bullet marks on his body.

His body was later shifted to Peshawar after initial investigations by the Khyber police. The reasons behind the killing of Bahadur Shah could not be immediately ascertained.

Police remain a target in Khyber

Police personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to face targeted attacks. Security forces have responded with operations across the region, and separate operations earlier this month killed more than 10 militants in KP and Balochistan.

Intelligence-based actions have also continued in the tribal districts, including an operation in Mir Ali in which three militants were killed, according to state media.

The federal government maintains that Pakistan is waging a global war against terrorism, and the prime minister has said terrorism in KP must be stopped at any cost. The full account of Friday’s incidents was first reported by Dawn.
