Motorway authorities have announced a new M-Tag fee policy for drivers across Pakistan. The updated charges will take effect from June 1, 2026. Therefore, officials have advised motorists to replace old M-Tags before the deadline to avoid extra costs and travel disruptions.
According to the latest notice, drivers who still use old M-Tags should switch to the new “One Country One Tag” system. This updated system aims to improve motorway travel and make toll collection faster and more efficient. In addition, authorities want to ensure smooth travel on all national motorways.
Officials said motorists can currently replace old M-Tags free of charge if they are more than 5 years old. However, this free replacement facility will remain available only until May 31, 2026. As a result, drivers are rushing to update their tags before the deadline ends.
The new M-Tag fee structure will take effect on June 1. Drivers who fail to replace their old tags before the free window closes will have to pay a replacement fee of Rs150. Meanwhile, authorities also warned that the fee will increase further after another deadline.
According to the announcement, old M-Tags will reportedly stop working from July 1, 2026. Therefore, motorists who continue using outdated tags may face travel problems at motorway toll plazas. Moreover, the replacement fee will rise from Rs150 to Rs300 after July 1.
Officials urged motorway users to complete the replacement process as early as possible. They explained that the upgraded tagging system will support uninterrupted travel across the country. Furthermore, the new technology will help improve toll management and reduce delays at entry and exit points.
The latest M-Tag fee update has already gained attention among daily commuters and transport companies. Many drivers welcomed the digital upgrade because they expect faster movement on busy motorway routes. However, some users also requested better awareness campaigns to inform people about the deadlines.
Transport experts believe the modern tagging system could improve traffic flow and reduce long waiting times at toll booths. At the same time, they stressed the importance of timely implementation and public cooperation.
Authorities also reminded drivers to check the status of their current tags before traveling. In this way, motorists can avoid inconvenience and additional charges in the coming weeks.
The new M-Tag fee policy reflects the government’s broader effort to modernize Pakistan’s motorway network and improve nationwide digital toll collection systems.
