Petrol Cut by Rs3.93 to Rs386.30 a Litre; Diesel Holds at Rs396.96

Petrol prices in Pakistan fell for the second straight day on Friday, as the federal government announced a cut of Rs3.93 per litre, bringing the retail price down to Rs386.30.

High-speed diesel was left unchanged at Rs396.96 per litre. The new prices, issued on the advice of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), apply for the next three days under the country’s daily fuel-price revision regime.

Back-to-Back Relief at the Pump

The cut follows Thursday’s revision, in which petrol was reduced by Rs2.90 a litre to Rs390.23 while diesel edged up Rs0.31 to Rs396.96. Friday’s move therefore reverses that diesel increase’s effect on petrol users, and leaves both fuels cheaper than they were a week ago.

For motorists, the timing matters. Petrol is the fuel that powers private cars, motorcycles and small commercial vehicles across the country, and two consecutive daily cuts are a rare piece of relief after months of volatility in global oil markets.

An Eight-Day Slide from Rs399

The latest cut continues a downward trend that has been running all week. On October 8, petrol was selling at roughly Rs398.96 a litre. Since then it has fallen in a series of steps to Rs386.30 today, a drop of more than Rs12 a litre in eight days.

That trajectory has been tracked through this month’s revisions. Earlier this month we reported petrol at Rs398.96 with diesel at Rs395.72, and an earlier price hike in jet fuel and kerosene showed how differently refined products have been moving this season.

The direction of pump prices matters beyond the forecourt. Fuel costs feed directly into transport fares and the price of goods, and Pakistan’s short-term inflation reading recently stood at 11.97pc, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. Cheaper petrol eases some of that pressure, though analysts caution that a single week’s trend does not settle the longer outlook.

Global Market Context

The domestic cuts arrive as international oil markets have softened. Earlier this week, commodity trader Vitol warned that oil prices could touch $200 a barrel under certain supply shocks — a scenario that would reverse the relief motorists are seeing now. For the moment, though, the international price slide has given OGRA room to pass reductions on to consumers.

Fuel prices in Pakistan are revised daily on OGRA’s advice, with adjustments reflecting international market movements and the rupee’s exchange rate. The petroleum levy, a major component of the retail price, is set by the federal government and has been a key driver of pump prices this year.

What Comes Next

The new rates run for three days, after which OGRA will advise on the next revision. With prices trending down from around Rs399 to Rs386.30 over the past eight days, consumers will be watching whether the streak continues into the weekend — and whether diesel, unchanged at Rs396.96, follows petrol downward in the next round.
