Good to Know

Before You Visit a Passport Office

Five rules that save you a wasted trip.

1. Pay the fee first, correctly

Pay through the Passport Fee Asaan app or Raast QR before your visit — DGIP has discontinued IBFT/PSID bank transfers for fee payment. Fees are non-refundable, so match the amount exactly to your pages, validity and service type (Normal/Urgent/Fast Track). Keep the payment receipt.

2. Bring the original CNIC

The original CNIC is mandatory for biometric capture. Bring your old passport for renewals, and the token receipt you receive at the office — you will need the 11-digit token number to track your application.

3. Know the timings — and the Friday break

Most offices run 8:30 AM–4:30 PM Monday to Thursday, with shorter Friday hours (8:30 AM–12:30 PM) and a prayer break. Token counters often close an hour before the official closing time. Islamabad’s RPO and Karachi’s NADRA Mega Centre in Nazimabad operate 24/7 — see our Islamabad timings and Karachi timings guides.

4. Only the applicant (or a blood relative) collects

DGIP hands the printed passport only to the applicant or a blood relative, against the original token — collect within 30 days of the ready notice. Home delivery is available for overseas applicants.

5. Never pay an agent or a random listing

DGIP has warned against fake Google Maps listings (notably for the G-10 Islamabad office) demanding JazzCash or bank payments. Pay only through official channels and never share personal documents with unauthorised individuals. If something goes wrong, use our complaint guide.
