Infiltration Bid Foiled in Kurram
RAWALPINDI: Pakistani security forces thwarted an attempt by militants to cross into the country from Afghanistan along the international border in Kurram District on 10 October 2026, killing twelve fighters in a precise engagement, the military’s media wing announced on Sunday.
Troops maintaining a high state of alert detected the movement of a group of khwarij approaching the border and engaged them effectively, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. During the exchange, Afghan Taliban posts also opened fire in support of the infiltrating group, according to the statement.
The ISPR said the vigilant troops responded with skill and precision, leaving twelve khwarij and Afghan Taliban fighters dead in the encounter.
During the intense exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, 40, a resident of District Ghizer, fought gallantly and embraced martyrdom, the statement added.
Pakistan Points to Kabul’s Failure
The military said the incident once again vindicated Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban regime had failed to prevent terrorists from using Afghan soil, and was instead facilitating and patronising cross-border terrorism. The regime had consistently failed to honour its international counter-terrorism obligations, the ISPR said.
A sanitisation operation was being conducted in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the statement said, adding that the relentless counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision — approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan — would continue at full pace to wipe out foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
The ISPR said the sacrifices of the country’s brave soldiers reinforced the security forces’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and its frontiers at all costs.
