Pakistan Visa on Arrival: Who Qualifies & How It Works in 2026
Can you just land in Pakistan and get a visa at the airport? For most travellers, no — the old free on-arrival scheme is suspended. But a limited Pakistan visa on arrival route survives for around 50 nationalities. Here’s who qualifies and how it works.
Quick answer: Nationals of about 50 countries on the DGIP list can get a visa on arrival — but must first obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) with 48–72 hours’ notice. Everyone else must apply for the standard paid e-visa at visa.nadra.gov.pk before travelling.
What Happened to Visa on Arrival
Pakistan’s Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) — a free, near-instant authorisation for 126 countries — was suspended, and as of 2026 there is no official word on its return. Travellers from those countries now need the standard paid e-visa. The Pak ID app still shows VPA options, but selecting them redirects users to apply through the standard portal instead.
The ETA Route
A separate, limited visa-on-arrival facility remains for nationals of around 50 countries on the DGIP’s list. The catch: you must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) first, giving 48–72 hours’ notice. The visa itself is then issued on arrival at the port of entry.
How It Works
- 1. Check the DGIP’s current list of eligible countries.
- 2. Apply for the ETA at least 48–72 hours before departure.
- 3. Carry the ETA approval and supporting documents (passport, return ticket, hotel booking).
- 4. The visa is stamped on arrival at immigration.
