BARKA: A Pakistani hero in Oman saved two people from a car swept away by strong floodwaters, earning widespread praise online. Dramatic video footage of the rescue quickly went viral on social media, showing his courage in action.
The incident happened on Sunday around 4pm as heavy rain hit parts of Oman. Floodwaters rose rapidly, filling wadis and low-lying areas. At least 10 people died, and dozens were rescued during the sudden surge.
Shahzad Khan, a 25-year-old Pakistani worker from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was near the flooded wadi when he saw a car struggle against the current. Hundreds of bystanders watched and filmed the scene, but no one dared approach the dangerous water.
“I didn’t think about nationality or religion. I only saw people in danger,” Khan told Muscat Daily. The Pakistani hero in Oman climbed onto the half-submerged car. His first attempt to break the windows with his legs failed, but he used stones to shatter the glass and reach the trapped passengers.
The current pushed the car further until it struck a bridge pillar, giving Khan the chance to pull both people out. Eyewitnesses praised his bravery, saying he acted instinctively while others hesitated.
Khan said the moment reminded him of last year’s Swat tragedy in Pakistan, where people trapped in floodwaters were not rescued in time. “Before my eyes, the Swat tragedy came alive again,” he said. His quick action prevented another disaster.
The Pakistani hero in Oman’s rescue has drawn attention from community leaders. Shandar Bukhari, Social Welfare Director at the Pakistan Social Club, confirmed that officials plan to recognize Khan once the situation stabilizes.
The viral video continues to inspire people online. The Pakistani hero in Oman showed that courage and quick thinking can save lives, even in the most dangerous conditions.
