Tresoldi Hat-Trick Stuns Inter as Club Brugge Win 4-3 Champions League Thriller

Nicolo Tresoldi’s hat-trick powered Club Brugge to a stunning 4-3 Champions League victory at Inter Milan on Tuesday night, in a seven-goal thriller at San Siro that handed the Italian giants a historic fourth consecutive defeat in the competition.

Tresoldi, a 22-year-old Italian-German forward, scored all three of Brugge’s first three goals. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 30th minute after Hakan Calhanoglu brought down Carlos Forbs inside the area, then capitalised on a goalkeeping error by Inter’s Josep Martinez to restore the lead in the 63rd, before completing his treble in the 74th minute, Reuters reported.

How Club Brugge stunned Inter Milan

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez twice dragged his side back into the contest. He equalised before half-time in the 44th minute, holding off his marker and turning to finish after Marcus Thuram and Federico Dimarco combined down the left. His second goal in the 81st minute narrowed the gap to 3-2 and revived the home crowd’s hopes.

But Brugge struck the decisive blow in the 87th minute. A wayward pass was intercepted by Forbs, who sent Romeo Vermant down the right to dink a delicate finish over Martinez. Ange-Yoan Bonny pulled one back for Inter deep into added time, but it was scant consolation.

“It was an astounding and great night. I dreamt lot of times of these nights and this was the very best dream,” Tresoldi said afterwards.

The numbers underline the scale of the upset. This was the first-ever competitive meeting between the two clubs, and Tresoldi became the first Club Brugge player ever to score a Champions League hat-trick. At 22 years and 54 days, he is also the youngest German player to score a treble in the competition.

A night of shocks across Europe

Inter were not the only heavyweight to stumble. Bayern Munich were held 3-3 at Viking Stavanger in Norway after Michael Olise’s dismissal left them exposed to a late equaliser. Barcelona proved more convincing, recovering to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul with Lamine Yamal supplying two assists. Atletico Madrid won 2-0 against Manchester United, who had Leny Yoro sent off, while Arsenal scored three times in seven minutes to defeat Lille 3-0.

For Inter, the defeat marks a fourth straight Champions League loss, the first time in the club’s history they have suffered such a run. The pressure is now firmly on their European campaign, with the league-phase table offering little room for further slips.

The result is also a reminder of the Champions League’s new reality: with more games and less margin for error, even Europe’s elite cannot afford an off night. Brugge, written off before kick-off, leave Milan with three points that could define their entire campaign.
