Samsung One UI 9 Update Bricks Some Galaxy A57 Phones at Setup

SEOUL: Samsung’s Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update is causing serious startup problems for some Galaxy A57 owners, with affected phones getting stuck before they ever reach the home screen.

The issue started appearing after Samsung expanded the stable One UI 9.0 rollout beyond South Korea. Even though reports so far come only from Galaxy A57 owners, the problem could plausibly affect other models too, so Samsung owners in general are being advised to hold off on the update for now.

“Access Denied” and raw XML errors

According to user reports on Reddit and X, the trouble seems linked to an XML file error in the update package. Affected phones freeze on an error page showing either “Access Denied” or a raw XML document tree. In some cases the device cannot get past the One UI 9 introduction or setup screens at all.

One user on X, Fahad Ali Javed, posted on October 12 that the page meant to show the update changelog was instead rendering an error, blaming Samsung’s server infrastructure. A Reddit thread titled about the Galaxy A57 being stuck on the “Welcome to One UI 9” screen is collecting similar complaints, along with a workaround that avoids a factory reset.

Importantly, the problem does not hit every Galaxy A57. Some users have installed One UI 9.0 without any trouble. But there is currently no way to know in advance which devices will be affected, which makes installing the update a gamble.

One UI 9: no official fix yet

Samsung has not explained what is causing the issue or said when a permanent fix will arrive. Interestingly, the Galaxy A57’s South Korean twin, sold there as the Galaxy Quantum 7, received the update earlier without the same wave of complaints, which suggests the problem may lie in the international rollout package rather than the software itself.

For now, the only reported workaround is rebooting into Safe Mode, and even that is unofficial. Users who have not yet installed One UI 9.0 should wait until Samsung acknowledges the problem and ships a corrected build.

What Pakistani Galaxy owners should do

The Galaxy A series sells in large numbers in Pakistan, so a botched update here would affect thousands of users. The advice is simple:

  1. Do not install One UI 9.0 yet if your phone offers it. Wait for Samsung’s fix.
  2. Back up your data now, while the phone still works normally.
  3. If already stuck, try the Safe Mode reboot method circulating on Reddit before considering a factory reset, and back up everything first if you can.

Software updates are supposed to improve phones, not break them. Until Samsung speaks, patience is the safest option. So far only the Galaxy A57 (sold as the Galaxy Quantum 7 in South Korea) has confirmed reports, but Samsung has not ruled out other models.

What happens to affected phones?

They get stuck at the One UI 9 introduction or setup screens, showing an “Access Denied” message or a raw XML document instead of the normal interface.

Should I install One UI 9.0 on my Samsung phone?

Not yet. Wait until Samsung acknowledges the issue and releases a fixed build, and back up your data in the meantime.
