Capt Husnain Nawaz Shaheed: 9th Shahadat Anniversary

Nine years have passed since that October day in 2017, but for those who knew Captain Husnain Nawaz Shaheed, the memory remains as vivid as ever. On 15 October 2017, an improvised explosive device blast in Kurram Agency claimed the life of this young officer of the Pakistan Army — 21TCC/26TGC, formerly of 92 Signals Battalion — while he was serving his country in one of its most demanding operational areas.

Captain Husnain belonged to that breed of officers who choose the harder path without hesitation. The signals corps is the nervous system of the modern battlefield, and officers like Husnain carried the weight of keeping communications alive in terrain where the enemy lurked behind every ridge. Kurram Agency, with its rugged mountains and porous border, tested every soldier who set foot there. Husnain met that test with the quiet professionalism that defines the Pakistan Army’s officer corps.

Those who served alongside him remember a young man of warmth and resolve — an officer who led from the front and cared deeply for the men under his command. In the mess and on the parade ground alike, he carried himself with the dignity of someone who understood that the uniform was not merely clothing but a covenant.

The IED blast that took him was sudden and indiscriminate, as such cowardly weapons always are. But what the enemy could not take was the example he left behind: of duty embraced fully, of courage worn lightly, of a life given meaning by service to something greater than oneself.

Today, on his 9th shahadat anniversary, we remember Captain Husnain Nawaz not with despair but with pride. His name is etched in the proud tradition of Pakistan’s shuhada — the men who stood between the nation and its enemies and did not flinch. His sacrifice reminds us that freedom is never free, and that every peaceful dawn in our cities is purchased by the vigilance of soldiers in far-off valleys.

May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat, and may his family find comfort in knowing that the entire nation stands with them in remembrance. Pakistan will never forget.
