Islamabad: Government employees have intensified their campaign for budget relief as the federal government prepares to unveil the Budget 2026-27.
Thousands of workers from different provinces have started arriving in the capital. They plan to gather outside Parliament House and press the government to address their long-standing demands.
Meanwhile, employee representatives have called for immediate budget relief for low-income workers. They argue that rising living costs have reduced the purchasing power of public sector employees.
Members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) said they will continue their protest until authorities respond positively. They also urged policymakers to include meaningful budget relief measures in the upcoming budget.
The protesters have demanded a 50 percent salary increase for employees who earn less than Rs50,000 per month. In addition, they want the government to merge all ad hoc relief allowances into basic pay and introduce a revised pay scale.
Furthermore, employee leaders have requested a 100% Ad Hoc Relief Allowance for 2026. They believe these steps can provide much-needed budget relief to workers struggling with inflation.
The alliance has also demanded a 200 percent increase in conveyance, medical, and house rent allowances. According to employee representatives, these benefits no longer match current economic realities.
In addition, the protesters have asked the government to reverse pension reforms and maintain the existing pension system. They have also requested the removal of the 25 percent tax slab imposed on teachers and researchers.
Employee groups have raised several other demands. They want the regularization of daily wage and contract employees. They also seek the restoration of recruitment quotas for the children of employees who die during service.
Moreover, they have called for joint committees to oversee institutions included in privatization plans. They also want the government to set the minimum monthly wage at Rs50,000.
As budget discussions continue, government employees remain hopeful that the federal government will announce substantial budget relief measures and address their concerns in the Budget 2026-27.
