Two friends. Two martyrs. And a loyalty so complete that it had to be written in blood — twice. The story of Captain Mujahid Bashir Shaheed cannot be told without the story of Major Adeel Shahid Shaheed, and neither can be told without breaking your heart.
It is a story of friendship written in sacrifice: of a captain who fell in the line of duty, of the friend who stepped forward to care for his widow and unborn child, and of that friend’s own shahadat five years later. Two friends, two martyrs — and one family bound to the soil of Pakistan by the blood of both.
An Officer of 160 RCG Air Defence
Captain Mujahid Bashir was commissioned through the 33 Graduate Course and served with the 160 Regiment of Corps Air Defence (160 RCG AD). He was a young officer of the Pakistan Army, serving his country with the quiet dedication that defines the best of the officer corps.
On 11 July 2014, Captain Mujahid Bashir embraced shahadat in the line of duty. He left behind a grieving family — and a daughter who would be born after his shahadat, a child who would never see her father’s face except in photographs, but who carries his name and his blood into the future.
A Friendship Written in Sacrifice
What happened next is what makes this story extraordinary. Major Adeel Shahid Shaheed — of the 119 Long Course, serving with 161 RCG AD — was Captain Mujahid Bashir’s close friend. In an act of rare loyalty and honour, he married the widow of his martyred friend, taking responsibility for her and for the daughter born after her father’s death. Together they were blessed with twin daughters.
Then fate struck twice. On 20 September 2019, Major Adeel Shahid also embraced shahadat in the line of duty. A family that had already given one hero to Pakistan gave another. The widow who had lost her first husband to shahadat now mourned a second — and the children, the daughter born after Captain Mujahid Bashir’s shahadat and the twin daughters, grew up in the shadow of two martyrs.

What Loyalty Means
Armies run on loyalty — loyalty to the flag, to the regiment, to the men beside you. But the loyalty Major Adeel Shahid showed went beyond anything the service demands. To marry the widow of a fallen friend, to raise his unborn child as his own, is an act of honour so complete that it scarcely needs commentary. It is the living proof of what the brotherhood of arms means at its deepest.
And then to follow his friend in shahadat — five years later, in the same uniform, in the same service — completes a story that reads like legend but is entirely, heartbreakingly real.
Two friends. Two martyrs. One eternal bond.
Every year on 11 July, the shahadat anniversary of Captain Mujahid Bashir is observed, and the nation remembers a young officer who gave everything. His is not just a story of one man’s sacrifice, but of friendship, loyalty, and a family that has given more than its share to Pakistan.
Captain Mujahid Bashir Shaheed and Major Adeel Shahid Shaheed — two friends, two martyrs, one eternal bond. Pakistan bows its head to both of them, and prays for the family they left behind. May Allah grant them both the highest ranks in Jannah.
