LPG raised by Rs20.68/kg for October; domestic cylinder now Rs3,296
ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Wednesday raised LPG prices for October, lifting the maximum consumer price to Rs279.34 per kg, effective October 1. A standard 11.8kg domestic cylinder now costs Rs3,296.23, up Rs244.14 from September, just as winter demand begins to build.
LPG price October 2026: the new rates
The increase of Rs20.68 per kg works out to roughly 8 per cent on the September price. It applies at every level of the supply chain and covers both indigenous and imported LPG.
| Unit | September price | October price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per kg | Rs258.66 | Rs279.34 | +Rs20.68 (~8%) |
| 11.8kg cylinder | Rs3,052.09 | Rs3,296.23 | +Rs244.14 |
Ogra issued the notification on September 30 through its executive director, acting under Section 6(2)(r) of the Ogra Ordinance, 2002 and Rule 18(1) of the LPG (Production and Distribution) Rules, 2001. The decision followed advice from the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division and supersedes the August 31 notification.
September had also seen an increase, though a small one, of Rs4.33 per kg. The October revision is nearly five times larger.
Where the Rs279.34 comes from
Ogra published the full price build-up for the month, based on a 40 per cent propane and 60 per cent butane mix:
| Component | Rs per tonne | Rs per 11.8kg cylinder |
|---|---|---|
| Producer price (incl. Rs85 excise, excl. levy) | 197,061.08 | 2,325.32 |
| Petroleum levy | 4,669.00 | 55.09 |
| 18% GST on producer price | 36,311.41 | 428.47 |
| Max producer price with GST | 238,041.49 | 2,808.89 |
| Marketing, distribution, transport margins | 35,000.00 | 413.00 |
| 18% GST on margins | 6,300.00 | 74.34 |
| Max consumer price | 279,341.49 | 3,296.23 |
One point favours buyers: under the LPG Policy 2016, the notified figure is a ceiling. Producers, marketing companies and distributors may sell below it, though they cannot charge above it.
Winter demand adds to household pressure
The timing is tough for consumers. LPG is widely used in areas without piped natural gas, and it is the primary cooking fuel for millions of households. With winter approaching, consumption typically rises, which will compound the effect of the price increase on monthly budgets.
Ogra revises LPG prices monthly in line with international prices and the dollar exchange rate. Consumers are advised to check the officially notified rate when buying a cylinder, since actual market prices in some cities have recently run well above the notified ceiling, a distortion Ogra itself flagged at the National Price Monitoring Committee.
FAQ
What is the new LPG price in Pakistan?
The maximum consumer price for October is Rs279.34 per kg, or Rs3,296.23 for a standard 11.8kg domestic cylinder, effective October 1.
How much did LPG prices increase this month?
LPG went up by Rs20.68 per kg, about 8 per cent over September. The 11.8kg cylinder became costlier by Rs244.14.
Can shopkeepers charge more than the notified price?
No. The Ogra notification sets a ceiling, so sellers may charge less but not more. Consumers should report prices above Rs279.34 per kg.
Why does LPG get costlier before winter?
Ogra revises prices every month based on international LPG prices and the exchange rate. Higher winter demand for heating and cooking then pushes consumption up, so the same per-kg rate hits household budgets harder.
